CHRIS’ 5 KEYS TO INCREASE YOUR LEARNING

If a genie were to grant you 3 wishes, what would be the first most obvious thing to wish for? MORE WISHES!!!

Whether you’re a professional athlete, entrepreneur or student, your growth will be determined by your ability to learn. The quickest learners will be the biggest earners. Especially in todays age of entrepreneurship. That is if you’re learning the right stuff of course.

Lets face it, learning is life. Learning is money. Learning is growth. Learning is time. Learning is reduced stress & better health. Just ask any person who suffers from anxiety & panic attacks or depression or worse PTSD. Whats the problem? Not their childhood. Not even the anxiety. Not even the traumatic memories. Say what? The real problem is that they haven’t learned to deliberately control & operate their own brain. Thats it. Just to let you know, if you’re my client, I can guarantee you I’m going to find out the exact times and places where that anxiety is a major asset. But thats a topic for another day. Bottom line, learning gives you the power for unlimited achievement & to create positive changes in every area of your life. You need to become a highly skilled learner. Its my secret. I learn very fast and become good at things real quick, so I have time to master my mind, body & business simultaneously. You want to be really skilled & dynamic to stand out from the pack. That requires super-learning with a whole bunch of wanton desire and determination to apply your learnings.

Before embarking on your personal enhancement journey, the first thing you want to learn is “learning how to learn”. Becoming a Super-Learner is essentially your ticket to unlimited wishes. A lot of “experts” talk about it, but really just give you regurgitated quotes and content. We’re going to give into the nitty-gritty, hardcore techniques, that is, how to actually do it!!!

Whether you’re in sales, run your own business, are a teacher or an athlete, your job is to give people an experience. No experience. No changes. This is critical. I’ll explain. Now a study at Harvard, asked professionals, “if you could have anything, what would you want?” . Unanimously, they answered, “an extra hour per day”. Time is money. You’ll save time and be more productive by learning faster and retaining more of what you learn. Simply just dissolving the bad memories, limiting beliefs, and worries from your mind alone, will save hours of time. In some cases, hundreds of hours per year!

A major problem is that learning is something we’re TOLD TO DO, we’re not taught HOW TO ACTUALLY DO IT. Our entire academic career, content was shoved down our throats without us ever being taught how to effectively assimilate, learn & remember it. The result? Most have amnesia for 95%+ of the content they didn’t really learn in school. Isn’t that such a waste of time?

I must point out that its incumbent on both the teacher and the learner to make the learning experience as entertaining, vivid, and memorable as possible. Look, some stuff is going to be boring. Some stuff you’re going to want to pull your hair out. But thats exactly when you need to toot your own brain & have fun with it. Use my 5 KEY INGREDIENTS FOR LEARNING to make learning easy and fun. Here are Chris Wyllie’s 5 Key Ingredients to Learning:

  • STATE.
  • STRATEGY.
  • CONVICTION.
  • DISSOLVE LIMITS.
  • FUN.

The above are the 5 ingredients you need to optimize learning. Elements 4 and 5 (Dissolve Limits & Fun) are connected to “STATE” but deserve individual mention. That is all your limits – be it bad memories, negative thought patterns, limiting beliefs – are limited to particular states of consciousness. Thus, different STATE, different BELIEFS. If you listen closely to people’s language they will even say, “well once I step into “SUPER-ME” … then I think and believe that I can do things I can’t normally do”. I like it, lets make a habit out of that! Secondly, having fun & emotions are the fabric of memory. You’ve got so many RARA motivation speakers, and people using fear tactics and hyperbole, whats above all that is high level humour and edu-tainment. Thats right. Now that with practical experiential techniques to create a tangible BRAIN ENHANCEMENT EXPERIENCE and you have the ultimate combo. An experience sets the foundation & re-wires the brain to make subsequent learning a piece of cake. Experience a belief changing intervention and then learn how to build such experiences for others.

Now lets get to each ingredient. I’ll explain the mechanics, the implications and then how to apply them.

STATE

Learning is state dependent. You’ve probably heard this before. However you may not know the precise techniques to control your state at will. When you learn information, the information is neuro-associated to that specific brainwave state. So the first step to creating and accessing learnings is learning – HOW TO CONTROL YOUR BRAIN WAVES & STATE. The brain is a wonderful machine. It’ll learn, rehearse, and access for you infinite amounts of information. All you need to do is get into the right state to access the desired neuro-pathways and thus all the information connected to that state.

I know you’ve all had the following experience: You going into test, and during the test you go black or faced with questions you know that you know the answers but you just couldn’t access them. Only to then have the answers start popping up in your mind while you’re walking or on the bus home. Wasn’t that annoying? This happens because during the test you didn’t access the learning state you were in when you studied the information. Like most you were probably calmer while studying and more anxious and rushed during the test. Hence, different states, and without accessing the state, the information is harder to recall.

The state you go into determines the information you access. Just think, when you feel really bad, doesn’t a rush of other bad memories typically begin to flood into your mind? When you’re feeling really good however its much harder to recall those bad memories, isn’t it? Thats because information & memories are only connected to specific states of consciousness. Now if you really want to get yourself anxious or depressed you can think of one terrible memory & bad feeling, access that state and then begin to think of every other area of your life so that they get coloured with those feelings. Thats how you create “generalized anxiety” and “depression”. I like to do the opposite. I like to spray happiness, curiosity and determination all across your mind & attitude now.

Particular environments can trigger brainwave states which trigger particular strings of memories and moments. Just think, have you ever been out for dinner with your partner and on the radio played “your song”? While this song was playing didn’t a string of past memories emerge in your mind?

Your state is comprised of the pictures and mental movies you see in your mind (either past memories or of the future), voices & sounds (both yours and others) you hear and feelings, which you of course feel. Thus the primary way for you to control your state is by changing the mental images, sounds you make in your mind and thus feelings you make in your body. This is the land of Neurolinguistic Programming. LET ME GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE of two key STATE INDUCTIONS – DESIRE & DETERMINATION. These are the two states you’ll want to elicit in your students.

DESIRE
I’d like you to stop for a moment, and think of a time when you saw something, and the moment you saw it, you knew it was perfect and you just had to have it. Thats right DESIRE. Desire that could be for anything as simple as a dress, a car, a partner, a home, a vacation, a mentor you wanted to be like, or a skill you wanted to learn. Anything that filled your body with that wondrous feeling of desire. Now close your eyes and in your mind, go to that very first moment when you first saw what you desired so strongly. See what you saw, hear what you heard. Now take the image of it and make it a little bigger, clearer and closer. Turn up the volume. Notice how that desire moves through your body and start to spin it a little faster, double it, triple it, 10X it … now is the perfect time.

Now inside the middle of that desired image, open up a little circle. Inside that little circle, see the target, see yourself with an unbridled exuberance learning math, science, neuroscience (pick a subject) with an overwhelming sense of desire. Then very quickly open up that little circle until that enthusiastic you completely covers the desire image – the same size, shape, dimensions etc. UUUUU the very same desire. Now really look at that image in your mind, thats something you need to remember and make it so that the closer you get to that image, the closer you get to mastering your craft the stronger that desire grows … suddenly learning and desire … desire and learning will be connected in a way they never have before. Suddenly the sight of that book is going to trigger that desire … the thought of learning trigger that desire … and the more you learn the more this desire will build and build and build and be absolutely irresistible … such that even the more you try to stop yourself the stronger this desire becomes … until you’re exploding like a rocket-ship to your dreams and beyond. Lucky you.

DETERMINATION
I know there has been a time when you put your mind to completing something and nothing was going to stop you. Isn’t that right? Easy, hard, no matter what you were going to do it right? It could be as simple as finishing a level on a video game, completing a sand castle at the beach, finishing a final set in a workout, finishing your favourite movie series, or favourite book, or playing another game, there have been times where you felt determined and resolved, and you were going to do it no matter what. THINK OF THAT TIME NOW.
Double the size of the image. Make it clearer bigger brighter more vivid. Turn up the volume. Really turn up the volume. And amplify that determined feeling X10. Then open your eyes and look at your math text book. Close your eyes feel the determination. Open your eyes look at the textbook. Close your eyes feel the determination. Then suddenly like a sling shot see an image of you being #1 at calculus in your class shooting right on top of that determined image, with those exact same resolved feelings …look at the image and go, “this will be mine”. Simultaneously say a special “word” to lock in this Calculus genius state and touch your writing wrist to lock in this determined genius. Now say the word, touch your wrist and activate this state. Now thats what I’m talking about.

This following part is optional
Open your eyes and say to the teacher … you said calculus “was” going to be hard … I’m so glad the difficulty is over … you also said that the average for last year was 75%. I’m so glad to inform you that this class is very different … in fact I’ve been considering the scholarships I’m planning on receiving from Harvard and Yale (pick your university) … and I need a minimum 4.0 GPA, however I’m going to settle for no less than a 96% in this class just to be safe. Ohh yea I’m Chris by the way … I guess you could call me Chris “96%” Wyllie …

Now that would be one way to start a calculus class. Too bad its not true … unless you learned how to be a ninja with neuro-linguistics – 7 days or less to become a Neuro-Ninja here.

Now what happens in calculus class? The first thing the calculus teacher does is go, “okay kids time to get serious, this unit of calculus is going to be very difficult were going to have to get through it”. Immediately the students brain’s go, “ahhh crap and then shut offs”.

Math teachers globally have been fabulous at anchoring BAD FEELINGS to numbers & equations. Many kids I work with, all I have to do is show them a math book and they immediately feel bad. Just the mentioning of school makes them feel bad. The school system has done a terrific job making it so that kids feel bad not only while at school, but any other time throughout the day when they think about school. You like me, went through it, you know what I’m talking about.

Calculus is actually one of the easiest most practical subjects taught. Its all about rates of change, which is precisely how velocity, acceleration, cars, gravity, profitability and the entire universe works!!! Calculus helps you figure out which sports car you want to drive and where to invest your money!

The school system does such a wonderful job building post-hypnotic anchors. If you want to make a perfectly grown adult cry just show them a polynomial equation! Instantly they’ll start feeling anxious, nervous and “less than”. You heard it from me.

YOU NEED TO BUILD NEW ANCHORS – especially to learning!

Learning is kind of like an adventure when you think about it. You just don’t know how far the learnings will take you, or where the journey of learning will lead and the opportunities that will arise on the path ahead … ohh the mystery … if you stop and think about something you learned and didn’t enjoy, maybe you didn’t realize at the time, but the fact that you didn’t enjoy it actually moved you forward because it told you what you do like … you see standing still and hesitating gets you no where …. parents are always asking me where should I send my child to university … should he take a year off or go right for it … take the step forward, because even if its the wrong one, that fact that you’ve experienced the wrong one will lead you to the right one … did you realize that everything you’ve ever learned, every fact, every experience is ammunition for you to make boatloads of money, achieve superstardom success, in essence do whatever you want. Even if thats just sitting at home learning in a state of bliss and overwhelming curiosity. Do you see my point?

WANTON ANTICIPATION
Think of a time you felt incredibly excited and just couldn’t wait to do something. Close your eyes, remember where you were, what you saw, what you heard, that feeling of wanton anticipation, then open your eyes … Look at the equation on the board … then close your eyes see what you saw in that memory … open them look at the equation on the board … close them make that memory bigger brighter clearer so that anticipation begins welling up through your entire body … open your eyes and look at the equation on the board … hmmm have you thought about the perfect equation for your most epic life? Hmmm what are necessary variables that must be part of it? Think about that. Hold that thought.

Here are some USEFUL LEARNING STATES to induce in yourself & your students:
Curiosity, Desire, Determination, Flexibility (Creativity).

Remember the memory blog, that you need congruence between learning state & testing state in order for the learnings to be consolidated and accessed.

If you can induce a consistent state in the following 3 environments you’ll be miles ahead:
SAME STATE LEARNING IN CLASSROOM = SAME STATE LEARNING HOME = SAME STATE TAKING TEST. I did this especially for the highly visual classes: biology, chemistry, neuro-anatomy. READ Strategies below.

The biggest memory and learning problem for you is not being able to consciously re-access the same state the content you want is connected to. Second, good brain chemistry equals good learning. Nutrition, supplementation and specific lifestyle adjustments can ensure that you make good brain chemistry to build better focus, mental clarity and memory.

Let me introduce to you 4 key neurotransmitters for learning.

GOOD BRAIN CHEMISTRY

1. DOPAMINE – Dopamine is the “feel-good” “pleasure neurotransmitter that increases energy, focus, motivation and is released to consolidate newly formed neuro-pathways. In essence, when learnings “click” in your mind, dopamine is released to strengthen the neuro-connections. Thus dopamine is key to both the initiation of motivation for learning & the consolidation of learning. Some supplements to increase Dopamine include L-tyrosine, Coffee with MCT Oil, Mucuna Puriens, Gingko & Ginseng. As well, “DHA” increases Dopamine. Consume a higher protein diet, with lots of vegetables and lower carbohydrates to increase dopamine levels. I recommend taking dopamine supplements on an empty stomach before eating food for maximal effect.

2. CHOLINE – Choline is a neurotransmitter that increases memory, information processing, thinking speed, and overall mental sharpness. Some supplements that raise choline include Citicholine, Alpha GPC & phosphatidylserine (PS). Likewise, take these supplements on an empty stomach before studying. Foods rich in choline include Egg Yolks, Salmon & Beef Liver.

3. GABA – GABA inhibits over-excitation of brain cells. GABA promotes relaxation and calm focus. I do not recommend taking GABA directly, but rather subtly raising GABA levels via magnesium supplementation. Add in active form of Vitamin B6 with the magnesium (MG) for increased GABA production. Both Mg & Vit. B6 are co factors that convert glutamate (excitatory) into GABA. Magnesium Threonate is my favourite magnesium for the brain and cerebral spinal fluid.

4. SEROTONIN – Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that modulates mood, creativity & overall well-being. Elevating serotonin can assist you in achieving altered states of consciousness & increased synaptic plasticity. Some natural nootropic serotonin boosting herbs include Bacopa, Goji & Schizandra. Exercise and weight lifting is a terrific serotonin booster. So is meditation.

Oxytocin deserves honourable mention for its ability to increase pattern recognition. Autistic kids were given oxytocin and suddenly able to perform fascial recognition. That is they were able to differentiate a sad face from an angry face etc.

Melatonin is another key neurotransmitter. Melatonin is released in the pineal gland, usually after a few hours of the absence of light. Melatonin release promotes deep sleep, during which the polarity of the brain reverses, which re-primes brain cells, strengthens activated neuro-pathways and prunes away unused ones. Without proper melatonin release, sleep and learning will be impaired. Avoid blue lights 3 hours before bed. As you learned in this blog, morning sunlight helps to re-set circadian rhythms, and proper timing of AM cortisol release and PM melatonin release. The presence of light in the morning and absence of light in the evening trumps any melatonin supplement every time. EXERCISE Exercise raises brain-derived nerve growth factor (BDNF), endorphins and replenishes the electrical charge of the brain. While in school, I never wasted any new brain cell growth and always did my most important studying before and after my workouts. In fact after work outs, the brain is neuro-chemically primed for terrific creative thinking & writing. I like to spend 20 minutes after a workout generating new ideas.

Not working out and pulling off 10 hours of straight studying is the worst thing you can do. Your brain becomes in-efficient, habituates and information is not as distinctly wired into memory. Did you know that the brain hemisphere’s change dominance every 90 minutes? Hence, the most effective way to study is in 90 minute intervals. Likewise, your brainwave dominance changes every 90 minutes. You want heightened Beta & Alpha brainwaves when processing information in “UP TIME”, and then allow the brain a period of time to go into “DOWN TIME”, that is into a more daydreamy “theta state” for the information to be consolidated. You can study in 45 minute intervals to take advantage of “primacy” and “recency” effects. That is we tend to remember the first and last things we are exposed to during a study session.

AVOID SELF-INDUCED AMNESIA!

DO NOT GO AND CHECK YOUR PHONE RIGHT AFTER STUDYING KEY INFORMATION. IT WILL GIVE YOU AMNESIA FOR THE INFORMATION.

I do this in seminar to deliberately give participants amnesia for their problems! I have them talk about their problems, and then I abruptly distract them, change topic and/or point something out. When I return back and ask, what were we talking about? They have a hard time re-accessing their problems.

I’ve given you a lot to begin to change and optimize your state … now that you know how to get into an optimal learning state, now we need to give you the best step-by-step instructions to perform the task – that is the actual LEARNING STRATEGIES!

STRATEGY

When a dyslexic child walks into my office, I’m always suspicious. I always say, “you’re going to have to convince me you’re dyslexic because I don’t think you really are”. I always ask them Dyslexia, how do you spell that? They proceed to spell it perfectly. Bit of a paradox if you ask me. I ask them how did you do that? They go it’s written BIG on my binder – DYSLEXIA. Hmmm okay …

Now you see, dyslexia and “poor spelling” in general usually isn’t a brain problem, it’s a mental strategy problem. Dyslexic kids and poor spellers try to spell words by “sounding them out”. Therefore they use the wrong parts of their brain to perform the task. Guess what the best spellers do? They make big bright pictures of the word, and have the word encoded as an image in their mind. That is they use the VISUAL cortex as the primary representational system, not the auditory one. Auditory loop is unreliable & requires you to sound the word out every time. Also, considering English has all kinds of quirky rules, having mental images can save you a lot of trouble. Plus all you have to do is have one big colour coded image in your mind to spell it forwards, backwards etc and recall ONE PICTURE … not sound out a whole sequence of syllables which is thus more individual “chunks”.

So with spelling problems, usually there’s nothing neurologically wrong with the brain its just a matter of using a poor mental strategy and thus the wrong parts of their brain to perform the task. All you need is to learn the optimal mental strategies for the specific task at hand. The same applies for all subjects & disciplines inside and outside of school.

Caution: We were taught to spell words phonetically without ever realizing you can’t even spell phonetics phonetically!!! Try spelling “caught” phonetically! The best spellers make big pictures of the words in their mind so they can spell it forwards and backwards. If you want to become a great speller, The NLP Spelling Strategy, which I learned from Dr. Richard Bandler, and what I teach in an NLP Practitioner Seminar is exactly what you want to learn. You could make a career making kids good spellers just with this one mental strategy!

Now lets talk about the sciences, such as biology. In learning BIOLOGY you’ll be faced with many different diagrams of cells, tissues, organs etc. What sensory representation is going to make learning biology a piece of cake? VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS. This is where you need to develop your photographic memory. That is being able to take a diagram in your textbook and build the same image in your mind. Then you can literally get 100% in academic biology like a walk in the park. It only took me 9 detailed pictures in my mind to complete a 3 hour biology test in less than 45 minutes. The same for neuro-anatomy. We all have a photographic memory, its just you may be using yours to remember vivid mental images of bad memories from the past rather than biology diagrams, books, stock markets, take your pick.

ART – Artists do this same mental strategy as well. Have you ever had an artist on the street draw your face? I did in London England. What did the artist keep on doing? He kept on looking at your face, then looked at the paper, then at your face and then at the paper. He kept going back and forth between your face and the paper, until he could see an image of your face on the paper. Then he simply traced the mental image on the paper. Voila!!! You want to practice doing the same mental phenomenon for your biology diagrams, neuro-anatomy diagrams, chemistry diagrams and mind maps for any subject.

Remember, learning is not about getting all stressed and trying to remember information auditorily by rote. The first step for super-learning is to get into a highly relaxed, calm focused state where visual imagery is enhanced. In this state, if I were measuring your brainwaves we would see increased ALPHA brainwaves. Use deep rhythmic diaphragmatic breathing to get into a SUPER-LEARNING STATE “body relaxed mind shooting ahead”. Now start with a diagram with maybe 7 items. Look at the diagram, look at your notebook. Look at the diagram, look at your notebook. Keep going back and forth until the image of the diagram begins to emerge onto your notes. This takes practice. I have a specific ALPHA trance inducing brain hemispheric trance induction I teach in my practitioner seminar.

Here’s a simplified version of my ALPHA TRANCE INDUCTION

1. Gently close your eyes. Breath in air through your mouth. Slowly let it out through your nose.
2. Put your focus up to the left, on your left frontal lobe
3. Move your focus to the right, on your right frontal lobe
4. Visualize letter “A” on top of your left frontal lobe. What colour is it? Capital or lower case?
5. Visualize #1 on top of your right frontal lobe.
6. Visualize letter “B” on top of your left frontal lobe. Colour?
7. Visualize #2 on top of your right frontal lobe.
8. “C” on top of left frontal lobe. #3 on top of right frontal lobe. Shift backwards all the way to the beginning. I’ll add a supplementary video for the EXERCISE. This is enough to start.

BUILDING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHIC memory is a skill, just like mastering a “form” in a martial art. The same applies for chemistry. If you can’t visualize a double helix molecule, or atoms bonding together, chemistry is going to be difficult. Learning and memory are, in fact, skills not genetically predetermined traits. Overall, you want to acquire better MEMORY strategies. A common trait is that all memory champions perform highly detailed visual representations of information in their mind. If you try to repeat things via rote using auditory loops you’re going to have difficulty remembering. You’re going to be working within the confines of working memory as opposed to limitless long-term storage.

Now have you ever heard about Einstein’s thought experiments? In his experiments, Einstein imagined himself riding on a beam of light and literally rode across the beam of light to figure out how light travels across space. He created these visual experiments to then get a particular “feeling” about the true nature of the universe. Ahhh yes kinesthetics! Kinesthetics are huge for math, physics and memory. In order to differentiate right vs. wrong answers, we need develop a distinctly different “feel” to them. If everything feels the same you can’t tell them apart. This is especially the case in autism or any hyper-active disorder. The brain is in such an overwhelming state of stress and therefore can’t make precise neuro-differentiations. A common example is during tests or performances, many people get anxious and nervous & those feelings impede their ability to kinaesthetically differentiate right from wrong answers. In a good learning state this wouldn’t be a problem.

Now back to memory, I wrote an entire blog on memory which shares many memory strategies.

MEMORY INVENTORY – I’d recommend you take a little memory inventory now. Notice where in your mind the mental images are of the things that you remember you remember vs. those you remember you forget. I bet they are in a different locations, have different focus, and have a different feeling to them. Much of the magic in optimizing memory as well as deliberately forgetting are in the modalities of thought. This is the mental magic most don’t even know exist. I love this stuff.

GREAT ATHLETES

Great athletes are very good at running success in their mind. They see themselves performing perfectly. They notice the nuances of how they’ll look performing perfectly. Then they step inside the image, feel and experience a perfect performance. In essence, they create the memory in their mind before it really happens. You see when you don’t consciously make plans thats when you can get anxious. By definition, anxiety and worry occur via bad mental planning. You imagine yourself messing up, or remember past failures. How is that going to help you to perform perfectly? ITS NOT. Your brain will turn things into what you expect and aim it at. So aim your brain at perfect performance to increase your chances. What does that look like for you?

Finally, we have the third major ingredient that makes the everything work. Without conviction, it doesn’t matter if you have the best strategies in the world. You won’t get full mileage out of them.

CONVICTION

I’m sure you’ve heard of this whole notion of your “story”. When someone talks about “your story”, what it really boils down to are your beliefs – that is what you believe is possible vs. impossible for you.

I’m always intrigued when I work with a client, very often brought to me by a therapist, who believes that nothing could help them get better. They always start off by saying, “I’m stuck with this broken brain and there isn’t anything you could do to help me”. At which point, I’ll look them dead in the eye and say, “Interesting, but you showed up anyway, which means some part of you is convinced you need to change, when would now be a good time to make that happen?” I learned from the best.

First let me point out to you the difference between a conviction vs. belief. The aforementioned person, “said they didn’t believe they could get better” … but that was just lip-service they learned to say to give therapists a hard time. The fact they showed up tells you that they really do believe they can get better. At the very least, you have a very strong belief that they don’t believe to work with! AHA!!! An important point in doing therapy, is knowing that what your clients are saying isn’t necessarily the truth.

HUGE TRUTH BOMB: In fact the individual is very often doing the exact thing they say they can’t do!!! I’ll save more details for a CHANGE WORK 101 blog. On the flip side, clients will literally tell you whats going on in their brain with their language. For example, “I’m having trouble getting going with this project or with completing this course”. What do they need? To get the pictures & mental movies moving in their mind as well as some powerful feelings of motivation. I always get a kick when someone says, “well I’m just drawing a blank”can you see how they just gave away the solution? What do they need? To build a mental representation of them in the future. Now the difference between a conviction vs. belief is in terms of long-term behaviour. Beliefs launch short-term behaviour and conviction long-term behaviour. Not only that very often beliefs have no influence on behaviour, but convictions absolutely do. An example of strong convictions and they being guides for behaviour are religious convictions.

Now the problem with limiting beliefs, like for instance, “I’m not good at math”, is that when you go to do math bad things happen in your mind. You go to do math, and then you remember a crappy memory or you see yourself doing poorly. Therefore you feel bad and don’t perform as well as you really could. Good idea? Absolutely NOT!!! The same applies with interviews, tests, competitions, dating etc. Can you see why it usually only takes me one session to get a client remarkably better? Once you got the manual for the brain, you can figure it out real quick!

The wonderful thing is that all it takes is one experience to completely change a belief. Lets say you believe you have a bad memory. However, then you take a seminar, learn a memory strategy and proceed to remember 20-50 items perfectly. You remember names, dates, books, everything you used to forget. That one experience would dispel that belief.
Or take a fear. Fear of public speaking. Fear of public speaking is greater than fear of death. That means most people would rather be the guy in the coffin than the guy giving the eulogy. Illogical. You bet. The brain is not rational, this is why psychology goes off course – they look for “reasons”. Rather the brain is predictably irrational. Problems aren’t random, they’re systematic. Therefore easily changeable.

Lets also say you learned a technique to get rid of your fear of public speaking. Moreover the technique made it so you could speak smoothly, & eloquently and have the audience eating out of your hands. Then you got up and spoke in front of a 100 people like a breeze. That one experience would dispel that belief.

One counterexample breaks a belief. But 100 counterexamples can’t break a conviction. A conviction is something you’re convinced you can do regardless of how many failures you experience. For example, virtually every Olympic Champion failed many times before actually winning. Current MMA fighter Connor Mcgregor is a terrific example. That conviction in themselves that they could be the best, resulted in persistent action until they achieved glory in spite of the counter-examples, naysayers & failures. Religious convictions are a stark example of the power of conviction to propel behaviour. Across time, there have been groups that have promoted the idea of a DOOMS DAY on a specific date. However, when the end inevitably didn’t come, rather than giving up their conviction they rationalized the counter-example and continued to uphold their conviction.

You see, you all are convinced of certain things. Maybe you’re convinced that you’re a great musician, or you’re great at math or athletics or entrepreneurship. And even if you messed up or failed multiple times you’d still be convinced you’re good at those things.

Were you born with that conviction? No you weren’t. But at a certain point you became convinced you were good at it. Maybe your parents forced you to play a sport or martial art or instrument. But at a certain point you keep playing on your own, with conviction that you’re good at it. You see, you want to deliberately build the conviction that you can learn to be the best at your craft. Right from the start. For students, you want to build the conviction that they can achieve academic excellence in each and every subject. Not just lip service like the client above gave, but conviction they act on. Conviction that persists especially in the face of difficultly. Providing MODELS & EXAMPLES of individuals who overcame odds and deficits to triumph is a great way to start a lesson. There’s a hypnotic phenomenon called Deep Trance Identification, where you think of your IDOL or MODEL, see how they perform, think and feel, and then step inside them in your mind. Lets go further. Build a mental movie of you performing with the exact same skill as them. Side by side. Then reverse engineer a series of steps backwards in time. Make 10 pictures in between the future you and the present you. Ask yourself, “if I were 90% of the way to my goal what would that look like? 80%? 70%? … 10% all the way back to the present.” Then practice running through those steps in your mind.

BUILDING CONVICTION EXERCISE

Think of a conviction you have about yourself. Something you’re proficient at. If you’re convinced that you’re not proficient at anything, use that conviction in your lack of conviction!

When you think of that conviction, notice where the image of it is in your mind, visually. Is it right in front of you, on the left or right? How close is it to you? Colour or black and white? How focused?

Do you have any sound with it? Is the sound on the left, right, in front or behind you?

Somewhere else in your mind build an image of yourself become good at a desired skill. Got it?

Now look at your existing conviction. In the centre of the conviction open up a little circle. A target. In the target see the your new picture – you learning to become proficient at your desired skill. In a moment, very quickly open up the new target picture until it completely covers the existing conviction. Picture in the same place, same size, same dimensions, same closeness, same focus, same conviction. DO THIS 3X VERY FAST. Now take the feeling of that conviction and start to double it, triple it, 10X it, as you look at yourself mastering your craft with complete and utter conviction. Even plan to fail. See yourself confronted with the greatest difficulty you can imagine and the sight of that challenge immediately triggering off this 10X motivation. Each time you fail see yourself becoming more and more motivated … literally the harder the going gets the more motivated you get … so that easy, hard no matter what you’ll will yourself where you want to go.

Without conviction, you won’t try with every fibre of your soul. Therefore you won’t find out what you’re really capable of. That is the very problem. Most people are not convinced they can be good at things … they’ll even say “I’m not the kind of person who …” Even if you have to pretend until you master it, when you’re convinced you can become good at something, you’ll give everything you’ve got. Thus you’ll activate all your talents and discover whats really possible for you.

In summary, you can believe you can be good at math and never open a math book. Similarly, you can believe that you should eat lots of healthy organic vegetables & organic meats, but yet mysteriously find yourself repeatedly in the drive through at McDonalds. I always get a good chuckle seeing these guys who promote healthy organic foods on social media at McDonald’s drive-throughs. So beliefs don’t necessarily trigger long-term sustained behaviours. Convictions DO. Your job is to build a conviction in yourself from the get-go. And do so for your students.

LEARNING LIMITS GONE – Getting Rid of Learning Limits, Negative Experiences, Bad Suggestions.

The problem with Labels, Diagnoses and Limiting Beliefs, is that when you go to do something bad things happen in your head. This makes you perform worse than what you’re really capable of. Or worse, makes it so you don’t even try. If you don’t believe you can do something, because some teacher told you you couldn’t 20 years ago, you’ll never try and thus never find out.

For instance, many of you were forced to stand up and read in front of a class. This was to re-assure the teacher. Of course you may have been anxious because no one taught you how to control your feelings. Hence, the teacher gets you into a state not conducive to reading well and successfully installs a traumatic experience. Worse, they program your brain to read with a Grade 3 voice in your head, which severely limits reading speed and comprehension.

Now did the teacher deliberately do this? Of course not. The same trick was done to them. However, its remarkable the number of grown adults who come to me at present age 40 or 50 and complain about what some teacher, parent or person did to them when they were 12 years old.
Vicious hypnotists and naysayers exist all over the planet. “You’re not smart” “You’re not mathematical” “you’re not the kind of person who could be happy” “you’re not enough”. These are only ideas. They’ll only be true if you believe them. If you don’t believe them, I guarantee you’ll prove them wrong.

HOW DO WE CREATE MENTAL LIMITS? Operative world “Mental”. They’re not real. They’re just ideas in our head. Let’s say your client goes, “I just can’t do it”. Be it math, building a business, or starting a new relationship.

IN ORDER TO CREATE THEIR BELIEF IN THEIR LACK OF BELIEF, aka, their MENTAL PROBLEM they must do one of the following &/or both:

1. WHEN WE GO TO DO AN ACTIVITY WE REMEMBER BAD PAST EXPERIENCES – hence you feel bad, don’t really enjoy it, and don’t really access all your talents.

2. BAD PLANNING – WHEN YOU DO AN ACTIVITY YOU SEE OR IMAGINE YOURSELF PERFORMING POORLY. You plan for things to go wrong so therefore they do.

GET RID OF BAD MEMORY EXERCISE
Step by step instructions for this exercise was given in MEMORY MAGIC blog. In essence, in order for a belief to affect you viscerally, it must have certain properties – I.e. it must be a fairly large memory, vivid, clear. By changing sub-modalities and mentally re-programming the memory it changes your automatic neurological response.

BELIEF CHANGE EXERCISE
Identify limiting belief. How do you know you’re not X? … Client might say well … “I just know …” How do you just know? Are you remembering the past or seeing yourself not doing well in the future? … Are you sure you believe this?

1. Think of limiting belief you want to get rid of.
2. Think of a new belief you want to have. I.e. Belief that you can become a good speller or a good public speaker.
3. Compare the sub-modalities of something you’re CERTAIN OF vs. UNCERTAIN OF. Pick non emotionally laden things. I.e. Breathing is good (certain) vs. what you’ll have for lunch in two weeks (uncertain). i.e. VISUALLY: where are the images in your mind, different location? Different size?
4. Imagine the limiting belief firing off into the distance and popping back up into the same location as the UNCERTAINTY image.
5. At the same time, Imagine the new resourceful belief firing off into the distance and popping up into the submodalities of the strong belief.
6. Do this 3-5X very quickly.

Make learning an animated hyper-sensory experience. Both LEARNERS & TEACHERS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.

Most teachers and trainers repeat the same schtick over and over again. Or speak with one rate or tempo.

What captures the imagination of the audience and paints big bright vivid pictures in their mind as they listen to a speech is dynamic, wide-ranging tempo, rhythm, tonality, voices and accents. As a speaker there’s a huge difference between talking about something and creating a hyper-sensory experience for the audience. You want to bring to life different characters, scenes, and stories in the minds of the audience for them to experience. Guess what? Their brains will fill in the blanks! You don’t even have to be that great at accents or tonality shifts, just add it in and the audiences brains will fill in the rest! Applying NLP & Neuroscience based tactics builds high level skill. You need to learn the fundamentals before you can weave them altogether into epic performances.

For students, if while learning your eyes are glued to your notepad, your only input is auditory. Not only that you’re distorting everything the speaker says onto your paper. Trust your unconscious processes. What was the last movie you watched? Who were the main characters? What was the plot? Did you take notes? No! Yet you could probably even replay many of the scenes in your mind and describe them in acute detail to me, YES!

Paying full attention and simply watching & absorbing is especially important in the NLP Practitioner Course. Absorbing how techniques are performed, the tonality shifts, the rhythm etc. Not only that observing the syntax, that is how words and techniques are combined sequentially. One more note on taking notes! Taking notes does divide your attention. By paying full attention you can create a more vivid imprint of the information. Yet, in todays fast-paced information age, we face the opposite problem, our brain “shuts off” and is dulled to hyper-filter out information and sensory input as a protection mechanism in the face of the tsunami of stress and information. This cuts you off from your genius and creativity. But not to worry, you can quickly dis-inhibit your brain and begin opening the doors to perception & creativity with specific brain practices. 

How does your brain really work?

Just as an infinite amount of written language can be produced from a finite 26 letters in the English language, your brain has trillions of neuro-cortical connections and can generate an infinite number of things from one idea or thought. The GENERATIVE capacity of your brain allows for an infinite number of possibilities from just one thought, picture, internal voice or feeling. The human brain is designed to imagine, plan and create new realities. This is the power of our consciousness to organize and bring coherent structure to energy and information to create new realities we imagine in our minds. We are designed to see the world the way it’s not and then make it so. The brain is the ultimate LEARNING, CREATIVE, GENERATING MACHINE.

However, the brain not only GENERATES and CREATES, it also DELETES. Do you think “STUCK-NESS” is too much or too little deletion? 

The answer is BOTH. Some people constantly run thousands of scenarios all day long, and can never narrow down and focus their thoughts. Others become hyper-focused on one thing, one outcome, one scenario, one problem and can’t see past it. Same label “stuckness”, but two different processes occurring in the brain, and thus the brain training should be unique in each case.  

Now in order to prevent sensory & information overload, your brain takes the incoming information, energies & sensory stimuli in the universe and REDUCES and FOCUSES it into specific things. This narrowing of focus enables us to function more efficiently in the specific realm of the world we are aware of, but also closes us off from everything beyond our model of the world, that which our brain has blocked off. The Filter enhances efficiency but can lead to rigidity & block us from creativity. See below. 

For instance, the brain takes the combination of thoughts, feelings and physical sensations and REDUCES it to emotions,“I’m feeling Sad … I’m feeling Mad … I’m feeling Frustrated …I’m feeling Determined”. The FRONTAL LOBES play a key role in deleting the stimuli and sensory input our brain deems unimportant, and cognitively evaluating the combination of thoughts, feelings, sensations happening from moment to moment. What one person labels as anxiety, another may label as excitement. Each brain filter works differently, thats why being a brain specialist and optimizing each individual brain is so much fun.

When the brain doesn’t FILTER and REDUCE information effectively, you end up with schizophrenia (hallucinations, disconnection from reality), impulsivity (inability to regulate thoughts), ADD (inability to focus on task at hand), emotional volatility (difficulty regulating emotions), Indecision & over-thinking (mind races in loops), behavioural inflexibility (hyper-active filter) and neurological conditions like Autism (sensory overload).

If you’re an entrepreneur, and you’re not focused and lack clear business and marketing plans, the problem is your Frontal Lobes aren’t focusing your talents and skills, into clear, images and value for you to communicate to clients. The lack of business clarity is a reflection of the lack of clarity in your brain. In which case, Brain Training to strengthen your frontal lobes for focus, motivation & decision-making is key.

SPEECHWhen you speak your brain activates the word you’re thinking of and many other words which sound the same, and others which have similar meanings, simulataneously. The filter, the frontal lobes, then DELETES those other words, and focuses on the specific word you express. For example, the word: CAUGHT. When we think of “CAUGHT” other words are activated, like “Cot”, “Faught”, “Taught”, “Taut”, “Catch”.  Your Brain deletes these other words and you express CAUGHT. When the FILTER falters it leads to speech impediments like Autism, in which speech is muddled. The frontal lobes play a key role in regulating the activity and input from the auditory, visual and kinesthetic cortex.

KEY POINT:  In the brain everything is happening all the time. The nervous system is THE ANTENNA which receives incoming energy and stimuli, and the cortex, specifically the Frontal Lobes, DELETES most of it and tunes our mind to a specific IDEA, WORD, OR STREAM OF THOUGHTS – just like the radio channel.

If your brain is fuzzy, and you’re indecisive and unclear, and one part of your brain is saying one thing, and another saying something different, and you feel like you’re being pulled in different directions, your Brain isn’t tuning into a SPECIFIC, CLEAR CHANNEL. Implement FAST FILTER FIX BELOW. 

As mentioned, your brain perceives an infinite amount of sensory stimuli, and actively blocks most of it to prevent our conscious mind from being over-loaded. This narrowing of focus allows us to more efficiently pattern and act on the information we perceive to be important. Psychoactive drugs like LSD shut down the FILTER, and so heighten the range of sensory input and energy that we consciously access. The input was always there its just in your normal state of consciousness your brain was blocking it out. Our brains have a baseline level of LATENT INHIBITION, which is how inhibited our brain is to prevent neurological overload. The more technology, social media and information overload you’re exposed to, the more your brain increases its Latent Inhibition – this is a major problem for entrepreneurs and students working under high stress, as it dulls creativity. Media, news, television, all these features of the modern world shut off our brains. So not only is fake light, and EMF bad for the brain for the reasons Neurosurgeons such as Jack Kruse document, here is another insight as to why its so harmful for your cognition & creativity. 

Optimizing your creativity and genius requires that you doors to perception in your brain, which can be achieve with Neurolinguistic Programming, Meditation, Hypnosis, Brain Qigong, being in nature, martial arts, tonic herbs and natural nootropics, which all decrease the brain’s latent inhibition. Your brain is constantly bombarded with smells, sights, sounds and tastes but constantly, but only a tiny fraction actually reaches consciousness. Only 0.0001% of all the visual impressions that reach the retina of the eye are forwarded to the brain’s visual centre and most never reaches consciousness.

As a result of this natural PROTECTION MECHANISM against SENSORY OVERLOAD, the more we are bombarded with EMFs, fake lighting, information, stress, excitatory foods (especially processed foods), the more our brain raises its baseline rate of inhibition, blocking us off from more and more sensory input. This dulls creativity, which is exactly what we see in kids who use technology 24/7. This is a deeper neurological understanding of WHY fake, excitatory foods, like processed foods and processed sugars are kryptonite for your brain – they inhibit your brain in the long-term.

Latent inhibition is your brain’s ability to block information out of consciousness. LSD reduces latent inhibition and expands consciousness. Too much technology raises latent inhibition and so decreases our consciousness. Too much input over-burdens consciousness and therefore causes us to lose focus. Studies show sharp increase in consciousness in students who took a break from technology. And as I’ve seen on QEEG Brain Maps, qigong, meditation, NLP, brainpower nutrition, all markedly reduce latent inhibition and thus heighten focus & creativity. All the above re-calibrate and re-attune your senses. 

As mentioned, geniuses like Tesla, have very low levels of inhibition, and so their brain perceives a vaster array of energies, electromagnetic fields and sensory input, and states of consciousness facilitating greater creativity. Its much easier to architect new ideas and innovations without the “breaks being on in your brain”. In todays world, the reason people are only using a small fraction of their brainpower is because their brain has been “blocked and inhibited”, by the stressors, information & our lifestyle.

Also repetitive movements like running help to trigger flow states, by repeatedly activating, thus habituating neurons, so that they shut off, giving you access to neuro-cortical pathways not regularly accessed during waking consciousness. Hence, “the Runner’s Trance.”

Back to how your brain works … 

As mentioned, your brain takes all the ideas and possibilities floating around in consciousness and DELETES the majority of these and focuses on something specific – this is the final task of the frontal lobes. The Frontal Lobes bring this information into conscious awareness. The same is true of your radio. Your Radio’s antenna accesses all the FM and AM channels simultaneously, but the information and music you hear, is from the specific channel you’re dialled into at that moment. What happens when your brain flips all over the place and can’t stick to a clear channel? ANXIETY, INDECISION, BRAIN FOG! Like a radio, your brain filters and deletes the information input of the other stations, in order to play the music clearly from the one station – the station playing at any given moment is akin to your conscious mind. Yet, you should know that your brain is the whole antenna, which is always accessing the entire range of frequencies. YOUR FILTER MAY JUST BE MAL-FUNCTIONING, in which case you may be tuned into a fuzzy frequency or the wrong channel, or you can’t STICK TO A CHANNEL (ADD!). DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, OVER-THINKING, WORRYING ALERT!!!

A second clear picture for you is that your brain works just like a google search. When you think or ask a question, your brain sorts and searches through the trillions of neuro-cortical connections, to activate particular neural networks. These neural networks are connected to many related pathways. Just like a Google Search, your conscious mind ACTIVELY SEARCHES  and “PULL UP” specific information as well as related information to what you searched from your unconscious. Your brain hierarchically shows you the closest matches. Once you’ve chosen a specific website or domain, the other options are deleted and you go straight to the website you’ve chosen. Just like surfing the WEB.

Consciously and unconsciously your brain is always running, like a car engine. Networks like your “DEFAULT MODE NETWORK” (DMN), which generate your sense of self, are always running. The DMN includes parietal lobes, which examine your relation to your surroundings, visual centres which process visual input, and your auditory cortex which connects to sounds and memories. The Frontal lobes then FILTER, DELETE, and FOCUS your conscious mind on what you believe is the relevant information. In Autistic kids I observe hyperactivity of default mode network, but poor frontal lobe regulation inhibiting clear distinctions of what is “self vs. other”, for example. This is why Autistic kids, rarely close their eyes as they lose, “their sense of self” when they do so. However, with brain training I’ve gotten autistic kids to the point where I can get them to relax, close their eyes and do all kinds of learning neuro-plasticity work.

Fixing a Faulty Filter

Working with tons of autistic kids, I see the tremendous activity going on in their brains. Their inability to consciously communicate their inner thoughts and ideas, precisely with language, may be caused by poor frontal lobe function, resulting in an inability to FILTER OUT AND FOCUS on specific information. Hence, speech comes out as a jumbled mess.

Its important to note that there is a difference between language reception/comprehension and language production pathways. So even though your child may yet to be speaking clearly, be very careful what you say to them. It all gets in, even though it doesn’t all come out. We understand language before we produce it.

NEUROLOGICAL BACKGROUND: Generally speaking, in Autism, the developing fetus is exposed to a stress response which activates the mother’s immune system. This can be caused by an infinite number of stressors, such as infection, EMF, biologic stressors which hyper-activate the mothers immune system which then attacks fetal brain proteins and leads to premature mass release of BDNF Brain Derived Nerve Growth Factor. This causes the entire cortex of the developing brain to glue and glob together”. As a result, the entire brain links and fires at the same time whenever one part is stimulated. This is why autistic kids are SOOOO sensitive to stimuli, because each sensory input activates their entire brain, and results in over-stimulation. Unfortunately under stressful conditions, what fails to happen in the developing brain is the precise specialization of the local brain regions like the prefrontal cortex. A major part of brain development is that each brain region becomes highly specialized to perform the specific tasks its designed for. For example, the frontal lobes play a major role in Language, Speech, Cognition & Decision-Making. In Autism many centres of the brain like the prefrontal language centres do not fully develop their full degree of specialization as in normal kids. So neuroplasticity training is necessary to develop the precise specialized function of specific brain regions, and deeply develop stronger neural networks, across brain regions that control language, speech, motor function, coordination and cognition.

Since the frontal lobes FILTER and DELETE, in the Autistic brain there’s tremendous activity, but the frontal lobes, don’t fully filter that information to enable the child to specifically FOCUS ON and thus EXPRESS one idea, one word, one thought coherently at a time. Autism may be tied to a poor NEURO-CORTICAL SPECIALIZATION and thus require very precise Neuroplasticity training, just like you can read about in Dr. Norman Doidge’s book, “The Brain’s Way of Healing”. 

In my work with autistic kids I see clear differences in how they spatially represent and access information, which I notice by the way their eyes move, and body orients. What may be perceived as lack of eye contact, and difficulty communicating, may just be a difference in how autistic kids spatially represent and access information in their brain.

As mentioned above, as it related to language, before we say any word, we think of the word, and in the process our brain generates all potential words that sound similar, and has similar meaning- taught, caught, fought, told, tout. The brain deletes those other words, and focuses on one specifically. This is the job of the Frontal Lobes, to take language which is generated unconsciously and then express specific words, ideas, thoughts. 


THE BRAIN’S FILTERING FUNCTION is exemplified by the Classic Case we learn in Neuroscience – that of Phineas Gage.

Phineas Gage, was working on a railroad and had an iron rod go through his frontal lobes. After this incident he experienced extreme personality changes, as he now had NO FILTER to control the emotional shifts. With his frontal lobes destroyed he was left with no filter to delete the waves of emotional activity, and personality fluctuations going on in head. We all get mad, and there are all times, where we want to, “curse, fight and tell people off”, but our frontal lobes regulate that internal activity, and select something more appropriate to say. Thats when the frontal lobes are working well of course. (IMPULSIVITY ALERT!) When the frontal lobes aren’t working right, we don’t filter and speak language optimally. In fact, the frontal lobes don’t fully finish developing until age 25-27 which is why adolescents, teens and young adults are prone to impulsive behaviour – their frontal lobes, they’re FILTERS, are not fully developed. They’ve yet to fully develop their ability to DELETE inappropriate behaviours and so are more apt to act impulsively.

At the same time, for individuals with learning and language disabilities, the filtering abilities of the brain are off which is why they may produce word salad, jumbled speech etc.

The more you or your child is prone to impulsive behaviour, the more brain training for their frontal lobes they need, with Neurofeedback, Neurofield, Neurolinguistic Programming & my own proprietary Neuroplasticity Protocols.


 THE BRAIN UNFILTERED – The Extreme

If you’ve taken psychoactive drugs like LSD, you know that they open the doorways to perception, enabling you to see colours, energies, fields you don’t normally. They do this by shutting down the filtering mechanisms in the brain. Thus giving you access to more of your unconscious activity and a larger spectrum of sensory stimuli. This can be very useful for allowing you to experience more than you normally do and thus expanding your model of the world. However, the most effective way to open the doors to perception is with the doors to perception. This can be done with hypnosis, NLP, meditation, qigong etc. 

MEDITATION and TAI CHI are extremely effective in shutting down the normal FILTERING AND DELETION MECHANISMS of the brain, thereby allowing you to access more of your brainpower. In fact, with meditation, and tai chi (moving meditation), the repetitious, rhythmic movements, and rhythmic breathing lead to a “calming & TURNING OFF” of the deletion mechanisms in the brain, expanding your ability to tune into energies and information in the universe. With meditation and tai chi, repeated activation causes the frontal lobes to habituate, “turn off”, thus you access deeper dimensions of emotions, memory  and unconscious activity and sensory input from the auditory, visual and kineasthetic cortices. This is why meditation and tai chi, are profound for expanding your energy, consciousness and creativity.

SCHOOL SYSTEM ALERT: unfortunately our school system’s hyper-analytical focus on rote, pure left-brain learning, causes hyper development of THE FILTER and DELETION mechanisms of the frontal lobes. Since learning is all frontal, “it’s there for the test and then its gone”. Worse this approach cuts us off from our CREATIVITY. The result is the creative juices, the passion, the expansion of our children’s minds and the way they think, narrows and becomes rigid, as opposed to rich and fluid. WE NEED TO TEACH KIDS IN A WAY THAT THEIR BRAIN LEARNS BEST. MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE NEED TO TEACH KIDS HOW THEIR BRAIN WORKS, & HOW LEARNING WORKS, SO THAT WAY THEY CAN DISCOVER THE BEST WAYS THAT THEY LEARN.

We should teach kids how to expand their brain’s capabilities to become good at art, math, science, english, all the fundamental fields, so that they really can discover what they’re passionate about. Instead of specializing and narrowing, we should be expanding the range of expertise that students develop.

So what would be the key upgrades to the School System?

THE BRAIN HYPER-FILTERED

How to FREE A HYPER-ACTIVE FILTER in cases of Depression, OCD, Over-thinking, Hesitation, Lack of Focus, Inaction

Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, OCD, are cases of EXTREME FILTERING by the brain, whereby the brain filters out much of the sensory stimuli and experiences and hyper-focuses on something specific – often a negative traumatic experience, person or behaviour. When it comes to depression, depressed individuals often have happy, positive feelings and experiences just like regular people, but their brain FILTERS out and DELETES these good experiences and instead focuses on bad memories, bad pictures, bad movies with the bad feelings attached to them. In the case of PTSD, the brain hyper-focuses on one specific memory or a stream of related negative memories. With these experiences blown up so big and intense, and such powerful adrenaline & kinaesthetic response it can cause the rest of their life and regular life to seem, “dull, drab and unmoving”. In extreme depression, the brain hyper-focuses on remembered bad experiences or constantly plays out negative scenarios happening in the future. I work with tons of these types of clients and every little thing, they’re constantly analyzing themselves thinking, “what if this happens …”, “what if that happens …” and run all kinds of scenarios where they see bad outcomes playing out. It’s bad planning. These individuals are so busy in their head that life passes them by.

In these cases, Neurolinguistic Programming is very effective for changing the focus and direction of the brain. Balancing brain neurochemistry simultaneously is critical in order for to facilitate greater mind control, and link these mental changes across the full spectrum of brain states.

Obsessive Compulsives similarly are zeroed in on specific behaviours and things, which constitutes the obsession and the compulsion is the need to act on it. You may obsessively worry about stressors, fears, anxieties, judgments of others, in which case your brain filters out good possibilities, and instead focuses on a few specific possibilities, usually bad ones, which your brain may be making BIG, BRIGHT, and CLOSE in your mind, thus creating bad feelings in your body.

THE KEY: The problem isn’t that you’re obsessing, the problem is that you don’t have the control to turn it ON and OFF and aim your obsessions. You should be able to put the things you want into the obsession machine in your mind, and go after them with absolute compulsion. Bruce Lee and every great athlete and entrepreneur is obsessed with mastering their craft.

HYPOCHONDRIAC ALERTFINE TUNE YOUR BRAIN – Realize that every obsessive loop, has an ending point at which point the loop re-sets. Obsessives and hypochondriacs who wash their hands tens of times, reach a point in each loop where they turn the water “off”. This is the point at which you as the practitioner need to create a new loop which connects to the end of that loop, as opposed to the end of that loop just triggering it to start over again. These fine mechanics are key. 

How do you know when to turn the water off? Do you get a certain feeling? What changes in your mind and body just before you turn the water off? These are the kinds of questions I ask clients to enable them to consciously access and begin controlling these unconscious automated processes, which is just a habit that a person has practiced thousands of times and thus neurologically become very good at.

OCD ALERT!  People with OCD are looking for COMFORT. What they need are to be taught more effective ways to feel comfort. With NLP & Brain Training I teach them how to relax and feel comfort. Neurologically OCD is tied to several neurotransmitter imbalances, specifically with GABA and Serotonin. GABA is “the OFF button” for the brain and serotonin increases neuro-flexibility and sense of calm and comfort. Remember, being obsessive isn’t a bad thing, and in fact, is a very good thing WHEN ITS AIMED & CONTROLLED IN A USEFUL DIRECTION. Titanic entrepreneurs are obsessed with learning and innovating in their business. And if you’re a smart man, you’ll be obsessed with loving, caring and making your wife happy!

The problem is that most people don’t know how to:

  1. PUT THE RIGHT THINGS INTO THE MOTIVATION & OBSESSION NEURO-CORTICAL PATHWAYS IN THEIR BRAIN 
  2. CONTROL & ACTIVATE THESE NEURO-CORTICAL PATHWAYS TO GET MOTIVATED & PROPELLED TOWARDS THE THINGS THEY WANT.

Anorexics and Bulimics do what they do, because they feel they’re eating is the only thing they can control. But yet paradoxically its out of control because they can’t turn hunger ON and OFF. Every ON switch needs an off switch – ESPECIALLY IN YOUR BRAIN.

INDECISION / PROCRASTINATION / HESITATION 

Indecision, hesitation and procrastination, occur when your brain goes in loops and loops, and often your brain is constantly running scenarios without a clear EXIT point to connect thinking to action. Ultimately the product of our thoughts will be some feeling and action. 

Like a mathematical model, your thinking processes have an initial TEST (an initial place to start. i.e. you see a business AD and then start to think about your business), then an OPERATION (thinking processes) and then a final TEST (often which idea feels the strongest) and EXIT (point at which you move into action). Your thinking processes need to have a final TEST and EXIT, otherwise the operations and scenarios keep playing out in your mind and nothing ever gets done.

You need to learn how to be more precise with THE OPERATIONS of your brain, make sure you’re using the right neuro-cortical pathways and thus THINKING PROCESSES for the task at hand. Then you need a strong FINAL TEST, which generally will be a strong feeling, that a particular action is most appropriate for the situation.

MANUAL FOR YOUR BRAIN:

1. Keep THE OUTCOME you want in mind, so that way you can TEST which thoughts & ideas will most effectively get your there. 

2. Use the appropriate thinking process for the task at hand. Making your business plan for the next year should be a different & more elaborate system, than motivating yourself to get to the gym. The mental processing you use should MATCH the complexity of the task. We  are notorious for making things more complicated than they need to be. Like diet, nutrition, exercise etc. 

You need to strengthen your brain’s ability to filter our the garbage and focus on the fastest, most efficient routes to success. The neurotransmitter Dopamine is what hones on our brain into solutions to “LOCK IN” and “SAVE THAT ONE” and keeps our mind focused on the target that we want to achieve. When dopamine is low, our brain tends to run wild.

High levels of dopamine are critical when learning, especially science. I read tons of journals, articles and books, and most of the information is garbage, so I don’t assimilate into my brain, but I’ll find the few golden nuggets of wisdom that make it worthwhile. Much of the information on the brain and science, especially on the internet is questionable, so you need a strong filter, that like on a computer puts most of the non-sense into the garbage bin and the gems of wisdom, you save and elaborately file and encode in your memory.

Dopamine increases pattern recognition, planning, executive function, and attention. The Prefrontal Cortex is the thinking part of our brain, which evaluates ideas, scenarios and then make decisions about what to act on. When Dopamine levels are high, we are very action-oriented towards what we want. This is because DOPAMINE, helps to increase the FOCUS of our thoughts on specific targets. When dopamine is low in your brain you become indecisive and your thoughts run in loops with no EXIT.  DOPAMINE is a key to DECISIVE ACTION. It strengthens your Brain’s Focusing and Filtering Abilities. DOPAMINE = FOCUS. The genius guide & strategies above all raise DOPAMINE! Do them!

The other key neuro-chemical, to “FREE” a HYPER-ACTIVE FILTER, and increase cognitive flexibility for OCD’s, the Depressive’s, and those who feel “Stuck” and “Blocked” is: SEROTONIN. In fact, Design Human Engineering (DHE), is a course taught by my mentor Dr. Richard Bandler, which is an evolution of NLP. The foundation of which is teaching you how to develop precise control over your own brain, to expand your thinking. Expanding your brain’s thinking capacities starts with learning how to consciously control the form and modalities in which you think. For example, when we feel certain feelings, those feelings have particular properties or sub-modalities. These components include location, pressure, speed, temperature, directionyou need to learn how to consciously control and manipulate these variables. Feelings are not “just things that happen to you”, they are neurological activity, which our brain evaluates and labels, “fear, anger, happiness”. You can learn to consciously take control of your feelings.

Developing precise control over your brain, starts with learning to control each individual variable, each sub modalities of your thinking while holding the others constant – thereby helping you develop greater precision over the elements of your brain.

The variables of our mental processes boil down to five representational systems, visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, gustatory, olfactory.

The three major representational systems we think in are Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. For example, we imagine scenarios playing out in our mind (visual), we hear internal dialogue playing in our mind (auditory), and we feel certain feelings, for example, anxiety, butterflies in stomach before big events (kinesthetic). Now its not you are a “visual” or “auditory” person, these are just the representational systems that our brain uses to inform our conscious mind of what we’re thinking. They are the form & structure of our thoughts.

We use all three representational systems all the time, although we each have a tendency to use one particular system more than others, this is your dominant representational system.

Now each representation system will have certain properties. Visual thoughts, will have variables like size, shape, location, distance, brightness, associated (looking through your own eyes) /dissociated (looking at yourself), colour/black & white etc.

For auditory processes, the variables, will be volume, tempo, pitch, rhythm, location, among others. Kinesthetic processes, will have a particular location, speed, size, pressure, temperature. These are the variables of your thinking.

Like a mathematical equation, the sequencing and combination of the variables will lead to a different mental formula, and its PRODUCT -> ACTION. By developing precise control over each variable and then starting to combining different variables together, you will begin to find the best combinations for motivating yourself, making decisions, goal-setting, and creativity. This is where the fun of experimenting and pimping out your brain begins, and optimizing other people’s brain as a brain specialist. Manipulating and developing precise control of these variables in their mind are what geniuses like Tesla and Einstein did naturally, and are in fact highly learnable skills.


Let me give you an example for Practice:

BRAIN EXERCISE

Think of an absolutely wonderful memory with a good feeling associated with it OR think of something your really, really want – like that Brain, that Body, that Life you Desire! Its time for you to step inside that optimized you.

As you think of the memory or what you desire, you’ll get a feeling that you will feel is the strongest in a particular part of your body. This constitutes the location of the feeling. In addition to location this feeling will have many properties to it like, movement, spin, speed, pressure, temperature, soft/hard. How does the feeling move in your body? Does it move up, down, clockwise/counterclockwise through your body?  How about pressure, is it a strong, intense feeling or a light feeling? 

Now hold all the other variables constant, and move the feeling forward in your body just a little bit, does that feel better or worse? Then bring it back.

Learn to control each component one by one, by changing one component at a time while holding all the other variables constant. For example, as per above, change the location of the feeling, move it up, move it down, move it forwards and backwards, and see which location you like best. As you experiment, certain directions and locations will feel better than others, and in doing so, you’re learning about how your brain works, and what makes it work best. Precise practice will lead to precise control. 

Now lets work on the VISUAL. Think of that wonderful memory, pull it up in your mind and see it now. Notice is it a slide (a still picture) or a movie – a series of slides playing out? Can you turn the picture into a movie? Can you hold the movie still at the most wonderful moment? 

Next, hold everything else constant and start to control the size of the happy memory. Make it smaller, than make it bigger, and continue until its panoramic and its beaming down on you.

The more you deliberately activate those neurocortical pathways in your brain, the stronger they become and more easily you can access and control them. Practice does make perfect in the brain.


In summary, your BEHAVIOUR, which is the result of what you think and feel, is the product of Brain Mathematics. While the mathematics are complex and we aren’t always aware of all the variables that are working in our mind, the process for developing conscious control over your brain is simple. With highly focused concentration you can both extend the range of each specific variable and expand the range of variables in your mind, in which you think. 

Ultimately, the Output of your BRAIN’S MATHEMATICS are YOUR ACTIONS – what you actually do. Thereby the greatest test of the effectiveness of your brain function, is how you’re performing in your personal and professional life.

Are you highly motivated? Are you feeling purposeful, passionate, happy? Are you executing your dreams? Are you getting things done exquisitely and efficiently or are things long and laborious? 

To get more motivated, I recommend your paint a new picture on top of that happy memory, a picture of the OPTIMIZED YOU that you want to become. See yourself acting, being and doing all the things you want to be able to do. Be as precise and make it as detailed as possible. Keep adjusting the picture/movie, the size, the location, the focus, until it becomes something you DESIRE and are pulled towards.

As you can see the variables of our consciousness, how we think and the activities of our brain, can be represented with mathematical equations. By identifying these variables and understanding how our brain works, we can extend the range of each of the variables in our mind (adding new dimensions to our thinking – moving from 2D visual to 3D visual to 4D), as well as extending the range of the variables we think in, to generate more possibilities for our life, behaviour and consciousness,  while simultaneously building a better, faster, more efficient, more expanded BRAIN – NEURO-PLASTICITY AT ITS FINEST.

Soon with math and science, we will be able to generate equations that represent the brain, consciousness and the universe, which enable us to better understand, predict and act in the universe. The ability to predict and go into the future is what our brains are designed to do.

You wouldn’t. Similarly, you need to STOP using your brain the slow, outdated, horse-and-buggy way and START to install the right mental strategies to get the right results.

You see there’s nothing special about the brains of memory champions, elite athletes, super-mental athletes and hyper-creative people, what’s different is what they DO with their brain. I’m going to show you how to use your brain to become a super-learner … and yes build a healthier, stronger brain in the process!

We’re all looking for ways to be more productive. Imagine if you had been able to escape the labels and limitations you learned growing up … “I’m not good at math”, “my memory is garbage”, “I’m not artistic” … or “you’re not creative”, “you’re not talented enough” all the non-sense your teachers and parents may have said …  and rather were such an effective learner that you could learn and do well at whatever you desired – science, business, art, philosophy – whatever you desired. What was stopping you? YOUR BRAIN. What’s the solution? YOUR BRAIN. Your Brain is a Learning Machine. Up to this point you just haven’t learned “HOW” to remember, “HOW” to learn precisely, “HOW” you can use your Brain to learn and become good at whatever you desire. That changes, NOW.

COMPETENCE builds CONFIDENCE. EXPERIMENTATION –> EVOLUTIONWith an accelerated ability to learn, you could confidently move out into the world start to experiment and try out many different fields and disciplines, and so put yourself in the position to discover where your true passions really lie. I remember my teachers telling me how difficult subjects like Calculus were going to be. And based on how they taught Calculus, it was difficult!!! The problem is that in the education system, kids aren’t taught “how” to be effective learners. They aren’t taught the skills and abilities to learn, and this is the first most important thing! We’re just thrown into war without any armour to do battle with – this is what we do to kids in our school system! We are bombarded with endless content without the strategies on  to most effectively process, encode, store and retain the information. Not only that, these mountains of information are boring!!! We need to start Teaching Excellence.

Our brains are designed to pattern information, FAST …not slow and laboriously … and as the information explosion continues, theres more and more information and more and more overwhelm & chaos that builds in your brain. I’m talking to you if you’re a CEO of a major corporation as much as if you’re in the 8th grade. Every one is in desperate need of extra brainpower to be able to handle the growing information. Not only that the ability to synchronize your brain, connect the dots and think laterally and non-linearly is PRICELESS, because everyone has access to the information. Now the BIG BUCKS, the Noble Prizes, the Mega Careers will be earned by those who can think both Linearly and Non-Linearly. 

Since we’re flooded with content, we need to build the machinery in our mind to learn, remember and organize the content in our brain effectively. In essence, we need to become Super-Learners. My book The Brainpower Breakthrough dedicates an entire chapter to Super-Learning, and in this blog and the full Super-Learning Series I will give you the step by step guide to optimizing your brain, learning and memory.

So lets dive into it … here are the the two fundamental ingredients of super-learning for you, for your kids and for the entire education system.

The First most important factor in learning is MOTIVATION. Above all, your brain has to be in the optimal state for you to learn information accurately. Your brain has to be bathed in all the juicy neuro-chemicals that fuel learning and increase neuronal activation if you are to learn anywhere close to your capabilities. RIGHT STATE = RIGHT RESULTS.

Do you get complaints from teachers that your son or daughter is zoning out in class? Did you use to zone out in class when your were a kid? Do you zone out in meetings, presentations and while working today? 

If so it’s because you’ve been taught that learning must be slow and boring, and as a result it is. Since teaching methods are so boring, you WILL have a tendency to zone out and explore more interesting things in your brain – I don’t blame you!!! I remember doing the same! You see, if you’re zoning out in a Theta-brain state, you’re not in the optimal state to be processing and storing information. Not only that if you’re in a THETA BRAIN STATE zoning out in class, then when the test comes and you’re thrown into a BETA BRAIN STATE (faster brainwaves) because of the anxiety and pressure of the test, you’re not going to be able to access any of the information in your brain. I work with so many brilliant kids, especially those with Asperger’s who freeze up on big tests and in social settings, where their brain goes into stress mode, and mind goes BLANK or TOO FAST and FALLS OFF THE TRACKS. I know I had panic and anxiety attacks my entire life.

The key for Super-Learning is Relaxed, Focused Concentration – Body Relaxed, Mind Shooting Ahead. 

In order to have optimal neurochemicals and Brain Juice for learning you need to be MOTIVATED. 

How can you increase Motivation to Learn? 

Boost Dopamine – Dopamine is a “gas pedal” neuro-transmitter that increases mental energy, focus, mood and working memory. Dopamine is the pleasure, reward neurotransmitter that gets released when we succeed/win at something, fall in love, or SCORE SOMETHING!!! … score a goal in hockey, score a girl at the bar, score a new business account. Score, Score, Score!!! With more Dopamine you will soar to higher scores indeed. Many forms of ADD, and ADD Symptoms (Brain Fog, Distractibility) are associated with low Brain Voltage. Low Brain Voltage = low cognitive energy = low Motivation. Blue Brain as we see on Brain Maps. Tired, Brain Fog, cranky, closed off to new ideas? You need to raise Dopamine.

So how can you raise your Dopamine levels? 

  1. SUNLIGHT at the Right Times – The Amino acid tyrosine, and all biogenic amines which fuel learning, including serotonin, are light sensitive aromatic amino acids, meaning the sun’s full spectrum rays increase the levels of these neuro-chemicals in our brain. The best time for you to get sunlight is in the AM between 8AM – NOON. This increases melatonin release in the evening to facilitate sleep as well. God said let there be light!!! Get in the light, and light up your brain folks! AM sunlight synchronizes the clock and timing mechanisms of hormone and neurotransmitter release in the brain. It normalizes and re-sets cortisol cycles, while re-charging your cells batteries to help you overcome ADRENAL FATIGUE. However, you must be able to “Hold Electrical Charge” which is where MEDITATION, QIGONG, TAI CHI, and Brainpower Nutrition, specifically DHA, are essential. If you’re into bio-hacking, then AM sunlight is your first and fore-most bio-hack. If you want to take things to the next level, do a standing Qigong Meditation, while barefoot on the grass – Game-Changing.
  2. BRAINPOWER NUTRITION – lots of healthy fats, and protein. By consuming lots of healthy fats and protein, for breakfast it raises Dopamine levels in the brain, and increases Focus, Energy and Cognitive Performance. This is true for you in your business and your kids in the classroom. Most importantly, you need to consume lot’s of DHA, the magical fatty acid in seafood. DHA is a component of all cell membranes, and is present in all the most vital places in your brain, especially at the synapses, where neurons connect and learning occurs. More DHA = more synaptic plasticity = increased interconnection of neurons = increased neurotransmitter receptors (DHA forms the membrane) = ENHANCED LEARNING & COGNITIVE ABILITIES.  More DHA = increased Brain Energy Levels = more Dopamine. For Brain Fuel, consume lots of Coconut Oil and MCT, fatty acids which convert into ketone bodies which are the favourite, clean-burning, super-fuel for neurons.

For example, for both Executives & Entrepreneurs AND kids with Autism, ADD, I recommend a fairly similar BRAINPOWER NUTRITION Game-plan:

MOVEMENT 

Did you have a tendency to fidget in class? Did you get in trouble in class for moving around a lot? Do you get in trouble for moving around in your job today?  I have lots of friends who’ve been labelled as “ADHD”, and who like to move and walk around when making calls and doing work … are these really bad habits or is there a good reason for these “bad” habits? … 

Here’s what you need to know about your Brain – Your Brain works Perfectly. What I mean by this is that your Brain is always going to drive you to engage in behaviours that “SELF-CORRECT” and BALANCE your neurochemistry, to fill the voids and raise the neuro-chemicals you’re deficient in. Your brain will always do its best job to self-regulate. The only problem is that the types of behaviours people are typically driven too usually give you a quick-burst and then leave your brain more depleted (Ex: Sugars & Processed Foods, Drugs, Behavioural Addictions etc.) Likewise, the same applies to most behaviours you engage in including hyper-activity – your brain is driving you to engage in them as a way to self-correct the neurological imbalances.

Have you noticed that kids labelled with “ADHD” move around a lot??? Do you think its a good idea to medicate them, or do you think there’s a perfectly good reason why these kids need tendency to constantly move??? 

Of course there’s a reason. MOVEMENT raises DOPAMINE. Movement thereby helps your brain to focus, pay attention, learn and remember. Rather than dulling and dimming kids down, movement should be integrated into learning programs. Kids should not be chemically cut off. And so how can we combine more movement, which equals more dopamine, which equals better focus and attention for kids in school? 

  1. Add in Vigorous Exercise for at least 20 minutes – Extreme Yang (exertion of energy) increases Yin (relaxation). The more you can get kids physically exerting themselves, the more they’ll be able to relax comfortably in the classroom. You want to train your brain to be able to shift states on demand. By increasing your ability to fire and activate your nervous system, you extend your ability to relax on the other end – just imagine pulling an elastic band in one direction, the more you pull, the further it’ll spring back in the opposite direction. 
  2. Fine Motor Movements – Fine motor movement activities such as Qigong, Tai Chi and Yoga, which require precise muscular and nervous system coordination are the ultimate brain boosters. By activating the cerebellum and sensory motor regions, which coordinate fine motor movements, this increases the plasticity and coordination of thinking and cognition. Everything is connected. Not only that, the cerebellum houses 50% of the neurons in your brain, and movement has been proven to promote neurogenesis, the growth of new neurons. If you’re looking for “Cognitive Enhancement Brain Training”  learn an energy practice like Qigong or Tai Chi, it’s the ultimate brain-hacking practice – it totally knocks sitting at a computer and playing brain games out of the park!!!

SUPER-STATE LEARNING 

NEURO-ASSOCIATION

Neuro-Association is about teaching kids “how” to operate their brain. How to build the triggers and switches in their brain to shut on and shut off relaxation, shut on and shut off heightened focus and attention, shut on and shut off their mathematical mind, musical mind, philosophical mind, analytical mind, and to access the right state at the right time for the right results

Your brain is like a Computer, a Super-Quantum Computer in fact. Quite simply, you have your underlying hardware, your neurology and then you have the software operating systems – your mind, thinking & consciousness – which runs through the hardware. By using your mind and installing effective mental strategies and operating systems, you can change your neurology and neurochemistry to access heightened states of learning and memory. I teach all these mental strategies in my workshops.


 SUPER-LEARNING STRATEGY 

For example, visualize a full Blackboard in your mind in a particular location in your mental space … before you begin to learn specific material access a particular feeling, ideally one of success and accomplishment which makes you feel relaxed and alert … then begin to absorb material in this relaxed and alert state with this feeling … as you do begin to ADD information – diagrams, equations etc. – to the BLACKBOARD or WHITEBOARD (whatever you prefer) in your mind … then with all the information on your BOARD, see the information confirm that its correct, feel the good feeling, and store it in a particular place in your mind … then BOOM its locked in your brain and all you need to do is look in that place in your mind & feel that same feeling to access that specific information. First, the DEPTH & EXTENSIVENESS of information ENCODING increases the STRENGTH OF THE INFORMATION & MEMORY CONSOLIDATION. The more senses engaged and the more elaborate the encoding, the more triggers and easier it is to access the memory. Second, Learning is State-Dependent. All you need to do is access that same feeling & neuro-chemical state to easily access the specific information learned in that state. If you’re like most, when taking tests, writing exams and speaking, you go into a fight-or-flight stressful excited state, which is different than the state you learned the information in. Thus when writing tests you can’t access the information, which then creates more stress and just amplifies your anxiety even more! This vicious cycle of anxiety can become a virtuous cycle when you learn how to control your brain.


Above is just a small example of the Learning & Memory Strategies which I teach to kids and university students to get them achieving straight 95%+++ in high school, and to get individuals like you supercharging your clarity, memory and creativity with your business.

Using the power of your mind alone, you can build precise triggers or anchors, to store and access information in particular states, for whenever you want and need it.

If you’re taking drugs, this can completely mess up your neuro-chemical state, and thus destroy memory, specifically RECALL while taking tests (due to different neurochemical state when learning vs. when taking test). In fact, most drugs deteriorate memory by stressing and depleting the brain of nutrients, such as B vitamins, and down-regulating your brains own inner neurochemical factories.

Learning is state dependent. The neuro-chemical state in which you Learn & Encode information will be the optimal neurochemical state you need to re-access in order to “tune into” and access that specific information most effectively. This is why sports rituals, and rituals before exams and tests …. and in fact building in different rituals for different types of tests is so effective. It triggers particular states to heighten performance in those tasks. 

Now, equally you can experiment and build neuro-associations with many external things   such as smells and oils, and particular foods. In fact, I’d recommend you eat particular foods before studying for particular courses or materials. This will ensure that your brain is in the same neuro-chemical and energetic state at time of testing as it was when you were learning and processing the information. P.S. You need to show kids the full applications of how they will be able to use and be rewarded for learning knowledge. Relate math to earning money, abstract reasoning and discovering the fundamental laws of the universe to being an innovator like Einstein … get kids inspired to be the next Einstein!!! … and relate science to optimizing their brain, health and performance in athletics, for instance. Reward kids for learning. Show them that their ticket to being and doing whatever they want is becoming an effective learner. Instil in kids the fact that: LEARNING = FREEDOM = LIMITLESS.

EXPERIMENTATION 

Cultivate the power of Curiosity. Capture the Imagination of Children. Use Deep Questioning. Teaching kids to think scientifically, and to experiment. Build an attitude of courage and curiosity to encourage kids to go out and “try” new things and observe the results. Teach kids how to Self-Experiment, how to “Bio-Hack” and become Optimizers and Problem-Solvers. Teach kids how to form hypotheses, how to run experiments, and how to measure, quantify and generate conclusions that stimulate further thinking and experimentation.

In our society, in youth we need to cultivate The 3 C’s: CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY & COURAGE to motivate kids to experiment and try on new ideas. Just as you lovely ladies so avidly try on new dresses and clothes while shopping! In doing so we’ll help kids discover and cultivate their true passions Experimentation, Application and Discovery of course raise what??? DOPAMINE and thus MOTIVATION! Novelty, Pattern Recognition, Pleasure of Accomplishment, are all Dopamine Boosters. 

You need to ignite the creative spirit in your kids and in yourself. You do so by learning how to become an “effective thinker’ and to constantly put your ideas to the test with excitement, anticipation and NON-ATTACHMENT. Nothing is “Failure”. Everything is just Feedback, information that you can use to become better. Failure is “saying I’m not mathematical” “I’m not smart” or labelling yourself or others … throwing your hands up and not doing anything. Its not that you aren’t mathematical or not creative, its just that you haven’t learned the process and strategy TO DO math and to create optimally.

FULL BRAIN LEARNING SYSTEMS 

Learning and Memory are accelerated by fully engaging as many senses as you can. A common phenomenon among individuals with amazing memories, idiot savants, and memory champions is synesthesia, the blending of the senses. For example, many genius’ see numbers and names as bright, coloured images. The brains of Idiot savants “geniuses’” do this automatically, while memory champions and people who want to increase their memory do this DELIBERATELY. Work with, not against, how your brain learns best. Bottom Line, learn the mental strategy and you develop the same outstanding mental abilities.

In terms of teaching, by integrating visual, auditory and kinaesthetic methods of teaching you engage and over-lap the senses and so increase the strength of the encoding of information. Stronger encoding equals stronger memory equals stronger retrieval. So FULL-BRAIN Learning systems integrate music, movement, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic and even gustatory and olfactory senses (especially by applying the super-learning strategy above, linking specific foods, which increase your cognitive abilities in that discipline, with specific information).

The common theme is STACKING THE DECK TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Stacking strategies on top of strategies, and senses on top of senses, to deepen and strengthen learning.

SECOND PILLAR OF SUPER-LEARNING – STRATEGIES. 

Installing Optimal Mental Software Systems in your Brain. 

The FIRST PILLAR OF SUPER-LEARNING is Optimizing your BRAIN’s Neurochemistry to get in “THE OPTIMAL STATE” for Learning. The second FUNDAMENTAL INGREDIENT FOR SUPER-LEARNING are STRATEGIESKnowing “HOW” to Learn. By arming yourself with the mental strategies, you arm yourself with the mental abilities.

The first most important step is teaching kids and learning yourself, “HOW” to learn most effectively. Imagine having to design a full presentation using Powerpoint 1998. By using an out-dated program, you’re limited by what the program can do. Same is true for Learning, you need to UPGRADE your mental processes … aka … the software operating systems of your brain so that you can learn, remember and create most effectively. We must move away from the slow “Horse & Buggy” Approach of learning, with rote, difficult, antiquated strategies, and move towards a systematic approach to learning with mental strategies that “WORK WITH” the brain’s natural ability to pattern, process and learn information RAPIDLY. Those who are able to LEARN HIGH-LEVEL SKILLS at HIGH SPEED will have the edge.

This is where Neuro-Linguistic Programming comes in. NLP is about learning, identifying and installing in your brain the mechanical mental strategies that people who are extremely successful at something use. For example, using MEMORY strategies like synesthesia, or Method of LOCI (more on memory strategies to come!) to accomplish amazing feats of memory just like memory champions or strategies to turn anxiety into hyper-focus.

And Guess what??? When you arm people with the strategy, they develop the skill. I work with many kids that come to see me and they tell me “they’re not good at math … they aren’t good at writing and English … they aren’t artist”  it’s not that they aren’t artistic, its just that they haven’t learned the strategy to produce good art … YET.


 SUPER-LEARNING SUBJECTS 

For example, mathematics is highly kinaesthetic, “you feel when you have the right answer”. Teaching kids to “cheat” by designing big pictures and graphs in their mind and then get the good feeling when they have the right answer is simple.

For writing and English, I have kids and people with “writer’s block”, see their thoughts begin to switch from still pictures to movies … and then I activate anticipation & curiosity in them … we’ve all been curious … and then rather than “planning” things out, like all English classes recommend … you know intro, body paragraph, topic sentence, conclusionblah blah blah … I have students, activate a state of INSPIRATION to their lifetime of experiences and knowledge, and in this magical state allowing a movie to develop in their mind … have their mind open the door, hit the button and allow ideas to come together … and then in this state, writing becomes as simple as just watching the movie in their mind, and allowing all the streams of thoughts and ideas to flow onto the page. Learn the right strategy and you’ll be successful.

When it comes to art, you have a lifetime of experience of pictures, images, sights and sensory input … and when you get people in a state of excitement and anticipation … and build in a strategy that connects the pictures in their mind to their hand drawing on the page, suddenly they can just “trace” their mental images and produce outstanding art.

Ultimately, memory champions who remember decks of cards, and hundreds and hundreds of numbers, names, places and faces, don’t have anything special about their brain, whats special is what they do with their brain, the mental strategy. For Memory, learning, focus, determination, overcoming anxiety, seek out the very best strategies … ask people “How” they do things in their mind … learn the technique and then install it in kids, adults athletes, executives, peak performers, and watch performance SKYROCKET!.

It’s just like spelling. We all we’re taught to spell “phonetically”, which you can’t even spell phonetically!!! The best spellers make pictures in their mind of the words, see the word correctly spelled and then get the good feeling and know that they’re right.

HOW TO OVERCOME ADDICTIONS – Drugs, Foods, Behaviours.

In this post, I dive into how addictions work, how to overcome them and how to flood your brain with the neuro-chemicals that take you out of mental, emotional and physical pain and drive you to the happy, healthy TARGET of how you want to look, feel, and behave. Rather than being ruled by addiction, and controlled by circumstance, I teach you how to take charge of your brain to get control of your life. I explain the key principles of addictions as it relates to the brain, and how you can actively run your brain to build new choices, new behaviours and new freedom. From addictions to drugs like Marijuana, Cocaine, Speed, Ecstasy and Amphetamines like ADD medications to food addictions that make you tired, cranky and fat, to addictive self-sabotaging behaviours, I cover it all!!!

Now, right off the batt, I want to congratulate you for your addictions, phobias, fears, anxieties and worries, they are an accomplishment you know!!! It’s an accomplishment for you to learn and remember to have an addiction and then consistently generate that behaviour. Photographic memory! Now, just imagine if you could re-direct that addiction and brain and memory power to master something else – like exercising, eating healthy foods, writing, creating and innovating in your business, making money or attracting the type of partner you desire. Wouldn’t that be great?

So it’s time to Buckle Up! You’re in for a ride, you’re taking control of your brain in 5 4 3 2 1, here we go … 

First and foremost, we all just want to feel good. In fact we all have the need to feel good and our brain will drive us to different behaviours to fulfill this need. For example, some of you exercise every day to feel good, some spend time with best friends, some take drugs, and some binge eat and stuff yourselves with dynamite foods, which give you a short burst and then a crash that knocks you out and numbs you to the pain. And many of you drink alcohol to move away from the bad feelings and get out of your head, while others smoke smoke smoke smoke. In most cases, you are moving away from what you don’t want, as opposed to accelerating towards what you do want. Your brain is not just a feedback machine, though drugs & fake foods do, in fact, destroy feedback mechanisms in the brain, its a targeting machine. Your brain accelerates towards targets and powers you to plan, think, create and move towards what you aim it at – when it’s working well of course. This isn’t the case for the majority. Do you have a food addiction? Drug Addiction? Substance Abuse Problems? Behavioural Addiction? 

When your brain is in trouble, you’re driven to move away from bad feelings so automatically that you don’t think to consciously aim your brain at a big, bright, juicy target of how you want to look, feel and be. If you don’t aim your brain, how can you expect to get there? As a result, your brain will drive you to behaviours that provide the “quick fix” or “short high” and remove the pain as fast as possible. “Hello, marijuana, Hello Alcohol, Hello Lays Potato Chips, Hello Peanut Butter & Chocolate (you’ve got to see the peanut butter cure below!!!)” 

The worse the underlying neuro-chemical deficiency in the brain, the more you’re compelled to high-return behaviours that give you the quick-fix. The brain will always drive you to self-medicate. And clearly Western Society is desperately searching for the quick-fix right? The “magic drug”, “magic weight-loss food” or the “magic diet approach”, all because people have brains that are chronically depleted and so they can’t Think, Plan, and thus Act intelligently. If you’re reading this blog, clearly you want to be in the driver’s seat of your brain.

When your brain is depleted, and all drugs including Amphetamines, ADD meds, Marijuana, Cocaine, Alcohol, and stimulants like excessive caffeine and sugar deplete the brain, neurochemicals like Dopamine which fuel focus, motivation and thinking, plummet. Quickly with substance use and abuse, the neurochemical well in your brain goes dry. The ReGame Changer Transformationsult: you can’t think clearly. Its a vicious cycle. The more you engage in the addictive behaviours, the more depleted your brain becomes, and the poorer you think. The danger is that as your brain goes, so do your morals & ethics. I know from personal experience, my anxiety, panic and addictions, pushed me to the point where I was doing things I would’ve never done in my life. Thankfully I didn’t get in as deep as my friends, who were medical students and neuroscience PHDs, but I still managed too plough through all my savings and was hospitalized, 30 pounds underweight in third year university!!! Weight loss, nutrient depletion, immune system breakdown, mental, emotional, and moral breakdown, out of control behaviour, these are just some of the nasty things that come with addictions. Taking charge of your brain starts by thinking. Here’s a photo of my before and after photo:

The key point is that when your brain is depleted, and you feel bad and you’re moving away from things, you make poor decisions. It’s simply not the case that you feel like crap, drink, stuff yourself with food or do drugs, self-hate and then make good decisions. Rather the sequence starts by bathing your neurology with good neurochemicals and good feelings, and then making good decisions. Those are the feelings you want to move into the future with right? 

You know that when you’re tired, in pain, stressed and depressed, the world looks darker, every problem feels heavier and you don’t have that same lightness and brightness of mind, right?. When you feel like crap you don’t THINK & PLAN intelligently, and thus fail to see the full consequences of your actions. For example, in terms of drugs, drug addicts in their mind, make short movies and see themselves taking drugs, getting high, feeling good and then BOOM, they stop at that point, as opposed to seeing the full consequences play out, such as all the time they’re going waste having to get the drugs, and then they’ve got to prepare everything, get high, go through an extended crash, and then do it all over again. Not to mention they’ve got to find a way to get the drugs, find the money, and quickly and progressively they becoming more and more dependent and broken down. If you’re a drug addict this downward spiral can continue until one morning you open your eyes and, “Holy Smokes” you’ve lost everything. Or one day you’re walking down the street and get jumped, hit over the head and it’s lights out, “you’re gone”. Or one day you’re sitting with a beer in your hand, watching television bathing yourself in regret, anger and resentment for all the talent, potential and opportunity you wasted. The reason why people make short, crappy movies in their mind as opposed to long full, all-encompassing movies that are empowering and move themselves to how they want to look, feel and behave, is because their brain is so depleted in neurochemicals like Dopamine, that they don’t have the brainpower to think. There’s no gas in the tank. Nor does the engine have the capacity or handling to get them where they want to go.

Remember, your brain is an energy hog. Your highest human abilities, such as your executive function abilities and decision making are the first things to be sacrificed when your brain is energy depleted. With this in mind, one of my primary goal’s is to teach kids how to boost their brain, and get “the high” naturally in order to feel good, while arming them with better learning and decision-making strategies.

Also, I’m sure you’ve all seen drug addicts, ex-drug abusers and people with addictions, how “jumpy” and “racy” they are, and how they constantly “hop” from one thing to the next. You’ve probably also noticed how people with addictions, especially to drugs, have “shakes”, “tremors” and motor dysfunction, similar to parkinson’s right? Thats because a brain that has been fried by addiction is depleted in the neurotransmitter Dopamine. Dopamine is what “locks” our brain on a particular idea, a particular decision, a particular neural pattern. Depletion in dopamine leads to precarious behaviour, indecision, and motor problems. The precarious behaviour and morals going by the way side, are a product of the brain starving for Dopamine. The addict is literally chemically cut off from their higher self.

What does an ADD brain starving for Dopamine Look Like?  Here are two sample examples. Did you know that there are over 6 different forms of ADD? And many different brain patterns can manifest as ADD.

  1. Left is a classic “Blue Brain”, Low Voltage Energy, Dopamine Deficient Brain.
  2. Right is an inflamed hyperactive brain with ADHD. Generalized Inflammation and Hyper-Activity “Red” Across Frontal Lobe.

So, the first step to making better decisions is to bathe your brain with the neuro-chemicals it’s starving for. The Process is Simple:

What you need to know about your brain: 

  1. Your brain is a learning machine that learns rapidly & works perfectly. Bottom Line, your brain is going to get its fix, its going to find a way to do so. In fact, addictions, phobias, fears, anxieties, are an accomplishment. Its an accomplishment for you to learn and to remember to have an addiction and then consistently generate that behaviour. Now the question is: How can we re-engineer the machinery of your mind, and install new strategies and patterns of function so that your addictive tendencies can be aimed at healthy behaviours like working, creating, exercising and learning. PTSD, fears, anxieties, are proof that your brain has a photographic memory. Fact is, you haven’t even begun to open the vault to your super-memory capabilities. While the brain is a learning machine, it can as easily learn garbage as it can the good stuff. Rather than letting your brain flip flop like a fish you need to direct your memory powers to learn and remember what it is you want, not what you don’t want. What you focus on will get hardwired more and more in the brain. Are you often stuck in your head, thinking and worrying, having conversations, arguments with yourself and with others before they even happen???!!! Seems like a great way to think. NOT. If so, you’re planning to be stressed as opposed to planning for the outcome you really want. With communication, be calm, clear, concise and don’t waste time and fool around, go after what you want and get it! Instead of stressing ask yourself, “how quickly and directly can I get this outcome?”  Change your approach, and you’ll save yourself a whole bunch of time, time to perhaps begin enjoying life!!!
  2. Building New Patterns of Behaviour – There is nothing “wrong” with you, you’ve just learned particular patterns of behaviour. If you don’t like what you’re doing, its time to learn “to do” something else. Your brain makes the best decision it can given the options it sees. Up until this point, smoking Dope, or stuffing your head in with chips, and ice cream at night, may have been the best way for your brain to give you the relaxation you need. Rather than self-hating, thank yourself for how you’ve been able to generate relaxation and comfort you need. Now in order to change things you need to build new choices. You can’t make new choices, unless you have them.

 

GAME-CHANGER DISTINCTION:

Your behaviours are not a function of “who you are” but rather “what you do”. Behaviours are a product of what your brain does and your dominant energetic, neurological patterns. ADHD, ADD, is not something you “have” its something your brain “does.” Its a process, not a thing. Since its a process, it means you can change it and teach your brain something new. Build new neural patterns of function. It’s just like love, happiness, and “reality” these aren’t things, they are “processes”, which are always changing. Bottom Line – you can take change these processes to change your brain & your behaviour.

How to build new Patterns?  We all know that energy is neither created nor destroyed, so all the fragments, energies and pieces of everything you’ve ever experienced remain with you, buried deeply in the unconscious mind and limbic brain. The conscious mind is the flashlight of your awareness right now, and the unconscious mind is the full warehouse of all our experiences, emotions, memories and thinking processes which constantly drive our behaviour. So the key is not erasing memories, as memories are just representations of the mind and are not in fact what actually happened, the key is to build new dominant patterns of function that your brain can operate with, which enable you to see everything in a new light. By building new dominant patterns of function, now the particular stimuli and situations (ex: party with drugs) can trigger new responses as opposed to the old ones.


 COGNITION & CONSCIOUSNESS

Consciousness is the primary, organizing, unifying force in the universe. Consciousness is the active process that intervenes between stimulus and response. By acting and thinking consciously, we can change how we respond to triggers. Rather than the sight of others smoking, triggering you to smoke, it can trigger freedom, control and enjoyment. So that the more others smoke, the more you see yourself acting with control, doing what you want and the better you feel, and so the more control you begin to have over your life. You can actively, and consciously re-wire your response to anything. This is what all my work and the power of neuroplasticity is about, from the neurotechnologies and brain training, to NLP/Hypnosis,to Qigong, Tai Chi, and the development of Qi and the Subconscious Mind, everything is designed to give you the hyper-awareness, and hyper-ability to change and direct your brain and behaviour to what you want – this is the essence of freedom.

So when working with clients, I’ll ask them, How would you like to feel and behave in these situations???  Depending on what you want and even if you don’t know, I can train your brain to be relaxed and in a heightened state of excitement when others drink, or heightened state of relaxation with a simple thought in your mind. The smoker is just trying to relax and breathe you know??? Just like installing a new program on a computer, I can design and engineer a new behaviour to get you relaxing and feeling better than ever before. I’ve completely re-engineered my brain and you can to.

Anticipation, imagination, creativity, the ability to hallucinate a reality and then plan the steps to create that reality – these are the distinguishing features of human consciousness. It’s time you step into the drivers seat and run your your brain, and think and plan with intention, rather than having your brain just directed and controlled by however the winds of the situation are blowing.

Rather than “moving away” from bad feelings, direct and aim your brain at what you want.

3. MAKING BETTER DECISIONS – Every Bad Decision Accumulates to Disaster.  Every time you put a cigarette in your mouth you’re making a bad decision. Every time you pop a drug, you’re making a bad decision. Eventually the straw breaks the camel’s back, and disaster hits. We all know that smoking, and taking drugs are bad for you, but what does it take to change?  It’s not until a person hits the threshold that they change, either they’re hospitalized and have no choice but to change to continue living or they realize how idiotic their behaviour is and reach the point of “Never Again” “Enough is Enough” “I’m DONE!!!” and finally focus on getting happy and healthy. So it’s not until you’re completely broken down, or you get a perspective, seeing the full consequences of your actions playing out, thinking ahead to you see what your addiction and behaviours are really going to do to you that you realize how stupid they are, and thus change. When you get fed up or laugh at yourself, you free yourself to change.

The brain is binary and so you need to re-direct your brain to want you want. Train your brain “not this, THIS”. You need to have a big JUICY target that your brain can move towards in place. It’s not enough to just remove something, as your brain will just fill that space with more crap. You need to build in something bigger, brighter, better than you can move towards.

When it comes to smoking and drug addictions, withdrawal symptoms, rather than being a stimulus to take more drugs, are in fact a sign that you are doing things correctly. You’re supposed to feel withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking the drug. In fact you can train your brain in such a way that these withdrawal symptoms trigger the big juicy, happy, healthy, future that you have ahead of you. An investment in a little short-term pain will free you for huge long-term gain. For your neurology, titrate down with the drugs systematically, bit by bit.

If coming you’re off of Dopamine Drivers like ADD meds, Cocaine, Speed, or excess caffeine, supply your brain with the foundational raw materials to begin re-constructing those neurochemicals on its own. For example, for coming off ADD medications start supplementing with amino acid tyrosine, start getting lots of AM Sunlight which raises dopamine, start eating a higher fat, seafood DHA-rich Brainpower Nutrition Diet, start exercising and moving more. Movement raises Dopamine.

If you smoke a lot of Marijuana “Dope”, and feel like a slow, Dope, your brain is depleted in neurochemicals like Dopamine and Acetylcholine. These neurochemicals modulate “Brain Speed”. If you’re brain’s slow and dopey, learning, memory and processing information suffers. All stimulants, plough through B Vitamins and require a diet rich in foods such as Egg Yolks and wild salmon, to support and maintain the integrity of neurons. Drugs fry your brain. I know I fried my brain!

Food addictions and addictions to sweets, especially at night can be stimulated by excess glutamate and cortisol. As a result, your brain is seeking to cool, relax and calm down and raise GABA and serotonin. Deficiencies in the neurotransmitters serotonin, GABA and Dopamine can predispose people to food addictions. We all got to stimulate our brain somehow! Find better ways of stimulating your brain. The key to behavioural control is to keep your Brain Juice high, and to have go-to strategies to ramp back up your Brain Juice when it gets depleted. Meditation, exercise, herbs, super-brain beverages, and sunlight all are huge go-to strategies to replenish your Brain Juice.

In any case, you can make the transition as smooth as possible while you titrate down, taking less and less medication. 3-6 weeks and Boom you can have your life back. It’s so worth it!!!


Steps to Overcome Addictions:

Principle # 1: We all need to do feel good.

Principle #2 – Actively Train your Brain to Form New Dominant Patterns of Functioning: 

Rather than “moving away” from bad feelings, direct and aim your brain at what you want. Your brain is a habit forming machine, and loves whats familiar. All the stimuli, the smells of foods and drugs and situations, the sight of foods and drugs and all the contexts trigger conditioned responses. While the brain will gravitate to what’s familiar, it learns through difference. Consciousness is the difference that makes the difference. Actively use your Consciousness to intervene between stimulus and response. Consciousness is what makes us human, and not just some Pavlovian lab dog, stimulus, response. That said, like a dog, our brain needs to be trained.

Here’s how you can train your brain:

Make movies, play out the consequences of your actions, change your perspective, see what your actions are really going to do to you. Drug addicts don’t plan. The Brain in many ways is a binary machine, and you need to train it “not this, THIS!!!”. Pay attention to your thought processes that precede the addictive behaviours – Do you see a big juicy movie of you eating ice cream, do you hear voices in your head that say “ohhh just have one!!!”, do you have a crappy feeling in your body you want to get rid of??? If so, you can begin to change the pictures, and movies in your mind, slow the voices, allow them to drift off in the distance and replace them with something stronger and perhaps sexier, and begin to re-engineer your mind. Hallucination, Thought Experiments, Seeing & Imagining Realities and then building that reality, these are the highest abilities we have as humans. Did you know that Albert Einstein’s Laboratory was his brain? Yes it’s time to start exploring and pimping out your brain. 

In my work, I completely “soup up” and re-engineer your brain and mind by combining Neuro-technologies with NLP, Hypnosis, Qigong for RAPID CHANGE at SUPER SPEED.

Finally, you all have automated programs, which tell you to do things, like not touch a burning stove, and which automatically generate behaviours like language, walking, running to make things easy and unconscious. As it relates to food, you have many automated programs, and its one thing to say “eat good foods, eat healthy”, but what happens when you pass a fast food joint or a ice cream ship and your brain goes, “mmmmhhhhhmmmm” and all your unconscious processes automatically drive you to eat ice cream??? Clearly you need deep brain change to re-direct these compulsions. So it’s time to automate the behaviours you want and make things easy, because things are easy when you work with, not against the way your brain learns best.

So when that jar of peanut butter calls out “ohhh come eat me, I’ll make you feel good” you unconscious mind says, “Bullshit!!!” and you think of how crappy you’ll feel and automatically move towards the sight, sound and feelings you want, which will pull you to a better decision.


There is no better time than right NOW, to learn to control your own life and happiness, because its not just about overcoming an addiction, a silly food craving or a quirky behaviour, its about imposing your will and at any second changing your ability to make a decision and then sticking to it. Over-time competence builds confidence. Creativity creates Courage.

Super-Memory 1: How I Became a Genius & You Can Too.

How does the Brain really work? 

How does Consciousness and Intelligence truly occur? 

How can we become a Super-Learner and develop Super-Memory? 

Have you ever wondered what makes Human Consciousness different than the Consciousness of other Mammals, Animals and Beings? 

In this blog post, I reveal how the brain works and how Human Consciousness arises. Most importantly, after learning about the brain’s two primary roles, I will show you the process of how to leverage  your brain to become a Genius.

When I say genius, I want you to know that we are all geniuses, it’s just that we all don’t know how to discover and activate our genius. Most think that genius just suddenly occurs, you’re born with it. Most would say that genius is just a perfectly wrapped gift that a very few just luck out to receive. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is a fundamental, repeatable process to becoming a genius. I’ve discovered it and used it to get to where I am today. I’m going to share with you this MasterMind process so that you can do the same.

Remember when you were a kid you used to say, if you can do it, I can do it better.”  You should go back to that state of power. That saying is 100% true. I’m going to show you how …

Working one-on-one with hundreds of people at both ends of the spectrum, those with extremely high-performing brains and those with diseased brains, I’ve learned that the brain is the critical hub to transforming your life. However, the brain is much more than the sum of its parts. Consciousness and intelligence are emergent phenomena meaning that they are more than just the sum of the activity your brain. From the brain to consciousness it’s like 1+1 = 3. In addition, intelligence and consciousness aren’t even localized just in the brain. Rather consciousness arises from the energies and frequencies at which your entire being is resonating  – brain, body and life energy. All life works by quantum leaps and emergent phenomena. What “emergence” means is that you can’t predict the emergent result based on the individual parts of a system.

In my neuroscience studies in university, I learned the localizationist theories, basically that the brain can be segmented into different parts and these different parts control different cognitive and body functions. In these classes I learned how the left brain is analytical, linear, logical and sequential, while the right brain is spontaneous, non-linear, imaginative and action-oriented. I learned that the frontal lobes control executive function, our ability to focus, regulate our behaviour and our mood and motivation. I learned that the temporal lobes control memory, emotional stability and are the wings of creativity. I learned that the parietal lobes control sensory and motor function. Finally I learned that the occipital lobes control sight, vigilance and play a role in sleep. However, based on how we know nature works via emergent properties which cannot be predicted based on the individual parts, clearly this is an over-simplified and insufficient explanation of how consciousness really occurs. Considering how much we know about the parts of the brain and how little we know about how consciousness occurs, obviously there must be more to the story.

Moreover, in this model it’s hard to explain why people who have parts of their brain removed, still retain vast of amounts of memory. You’d think if you removed the memory centres of a person’s brain, that their memory would be completely lost. It turns out that memory is much more complex that this. Memory is not localized in one spot. Memory is actually determined by the frequencies of energy and light flowing through our cells from which, our brain creates a physical image and reconstructs the memories at that frequency level. Not only can the brain re-wire itself, and different regions be trained to take over the functions of lost or dysfunctional brain regions, but also memory and consciousness isn’t even localized in the brain.

Consciousness and intelligence emerge holographically in every cell in our body. What this means is that any part of the brain and body contains an image of the whole and the images and memories are physically created based on the frequencies of light and energy flowing through our cells.

So what’s the brain’s role in all of this? 

The brain’s role is this: the brain is like the director, the librarian or the antenna, that picks up external signals and controls the flows of energy in our body, which then create the thoughts we think, and the images and the memories that are activated in our mind. It’s all based on the frequencies of energy flowing through our body. The brain is simply the controller, which determines which frequency you’re dialled into. 

Human Consciousness emerged with the development of the human brain. However, it is clear that animals and all beings have some level of consciousness as well. But what distinguishes humans is that we have a Human Brain which is a super-antenna that can allow us to access and tune into a wider range of frequencies, energies and intelligence resonating in the universe. You aren’t necessarily smarter than animals and other beings, you just have a greater capability and infinite flexibility to tap into frequencies across the entire spectrum, presenting you with more possibilities to react to and control the environment.

Like a computer, the more bits of information your brain can acquire, through knowledge, experience and tapping into the intelligence in the universe, the more possible solutions your brain can create. The higher your brain’s energy rises, and the more flexibility your brain has to tap into different energy levels, the smarter you get and the better your brain can create different quantum platforms, which we can use to further evolve. The more capable your brain, and your creative imagination the better able you will be to overcome whatever you will face in your environment.

In any eco-system, the organism that has the greatest flexibility and thus threshold of  control in their environment, is going to be the pre-eminent species. This is precisely why humans, with our increased ability to access energy and information across the entire frequency range, are the only mammals on this planet that can control and manipulate our environment – for better or for worse. It’s all because we have a superior antenna, which allows us to see, imagine and do more things. Our brain allows us to see things as they aren’t, allows us to imagine, and allows us to see and create the future. Our brain allows us to dis-connect from the earth, and to create possibilities on earth which weren’t designed to naturally occur on our planet. 

The brain’s creative abilities is what enables us to create either heaven or hell on this earth. Good or bad. Yin or Yang. Given the brains powers and what the human brain allows us to do, you need three fundamental ingredients to achieve good in this world, and make sure the forces of good transcend the forces of destruction.

Here are the three ingredients:  The 3 C’s. 

1. Curiosity –  be hungry and actively use your brain to acquire information & pursue solutions.

2. Creativity – use your creative imagination, just like Einstein, to contemplate, explore and then create new innovations and connections. Use nature as your playmate and research assistant – try to make sense of the simple observations you’ve had over your life, and explore how they relate to your health.

3. Courage –   never back down in fear. Always pursue the pathways that your curiosity and creativity will lead you. Do no let the opinions and beliefs of others dampen your fire.

Why is our Human Brain so Unique? How Does Our Human Brain Really Work? 

The human brain has two primary roles as both a Super-Antenna and a Librarian.

The first role of the brain is as an antenna. When you get into your car, and turn on the radio, the sound just magically seems to appear. And if you turn the dial to a different FM or AM frequency you can tune into a different station with entirely different content, news and information. The exact same process happens in the human brain. Just like the currents of water flows in the Oceans, mirrors the currents of water flows in the Cerebral Spinal Fluid in your brain, and just like when you’re young and full of energy, you burn brightly just like a young white star, the processes on the earth and the universe are replicated and used in you. The Human Body is Universe in itself. This is called fractal design. Each part of the universe contains characteristics of the whole. 

You always want to make sense of your observations, and see how the mechanisms of nature scale and are replicated in you. This is how you can discover for yourself how the brain and body really work. So, your brain is an antenna just like your radio. Another good example is that your brain picks up the frequencies and signals from your environment just like a cell phone picks up Wifi signals. The difference between your brain and a cell phone is that your brain picks up an infinite number of frequencies and energies, way more than a cell phone. Because of this the information and intelligence that your brain can tap into is far greater than will ever be created in any technology. Any technology humans’ create is just going to be a sub-set of the possibilities our brain can contemplate and create.

The second role of the brain is as a librarian. In it’s role as the librarian, the brain is the key to grabbing the right book, with the right bits of information, which you are trying to recall for the specific situation you’re in or the situation you’re trying to imagine.  The efficiency of your memory is determined by how accurately and swiftly your brain is able to create energy flows in your body at specific frequencies, which enable you to access the information, knowledge and specific memories you’re trying to recall. If you’re brain doesn’t work right, and there is a lot chaos and inflammation in your brain, your brain as the librarian, doesn’t sort and store the information you’re learning properly, and it slowly and inaccurately draws information from storage. When inflammation, chaotic and energy-depleted, not only does the brain not store the books in the right places, but also, when you send the brain back to grab a book, it doesn’t go to the right place and so grabs the wrong book. Both input and output suffer – learning, memory and storage – when your brain doesn’t work right.  

The more chaos and inflammation in your brain, the poorer will be cell signalling, and the more you will fail to learn and store new information and the poorer you will recall information from memory. At the extreme, when your brain completely falters you get Alzheimer’s. Acutely, when you suffer a concussion, the brain is energy depleted and brain signalling suffers. As a result, the antenna can’t pick and up and transmit the right signals, and the librarian is put into complete turmoil.

So, the brain is both an antenna which receives and transmits signals throughout the body, and it is a librarian which stores, sorts and grabs information from memory. Your brain is influenced by all the signals and energies it is exposed to in your environment. Your brain then transmits all the energy inputs it receives into different energy flows throughout the body which create your consciousness. Your hormone panel is indicative of these energy flows, but currently science is unable to measure exactly how energy is flowing through your body. Hormones paint a partial picture. Hormone panels when combined with EEG’s can give you a better picture.

As mentioned above, if your brain doesn’t work right, your antenna doesn’t work well and you cannot pick up the signals from the environment and the universe. And the frequencies and signals that you do receive are all garbled up and chaotic, just like if you were listening to radio and were far off from a clear channel. If your antenna doesn’t work well, you fail to pick up and entrain to the healing frequencies from the earth, you fail to use the frequencies of the sun, and you fail to pick up on the energies, and thus intelligence, resonating in the universe. Not only that, you fail to pick up on the energies of other beings and other people very well, and as a result your communication and relationships suffer tremendously. Love and connection is oneness and synchronization with the energies of another person.  Memories are created by a synchronization with different levels of information which your brain receives and can express.

So how do you become a genius? 

Do you need to read 1,000 self-help books? Absolutely Not. If you’re big into self-development and have read Napoleon Hill’s Classic Think and Grow Rich, I am scientifically explaining to you what he meant by infinite intelligence and I’m now going to give you the simple steps of how you can tap into the infinite intelligence to become a genius. All information in this world resonates at specific frequencies. For the earth, the frequency is 7.83 Hertz, called the Schumann Resonance.

You know how people talk about feeling grounded and balanced, but speak about it abstractly? Physically what is happening is their brain is synchronizing and functioning at the 7.83 Hertz Schulman Resonance which corresponds to increased alpha waves in the brain. People who meditate, and are connected to themselves and the world, have increase alpha waves in their brain. Also people who are connected to the sun’s cycles, and have proper circadian signalling, by rising in the morning when the sun begins to rise, and shutting off all the blue light (T.V., computer screens) at night when the sun goes down, have increased levels of alpha brain waves. Alpha brain-waves correspond to being in the flow of life, being relaxed and focused, and being in the zone. It is in the zone where people tap into ideas, connect the dots between different information and ideas, and see things about the universe they normally never consider. I’m in a flow state right now as I’m writing this, and all these insights are flowing into and out of my brain onto the page. I’m going to stay tuned into this channel as long as I can! In fact, you can construct your day so that your entire day you are in a Flow State.

Bottom line, the information and intelligence that you are accessing right now is all based on the frequency and energy that you are synchronizing with and that is resonating throughout your brain and body. 

If your energy and life force is low, you’ll produce low energetic thinking, receive low energetic feelings and engage in low energetic behaviours. In essence, you’ll be the opposite of enlightened – you’ll remain in the dark.

Here is a formula to remember: 

ENERGY = FREQUENCY = INFORMATION = INTELLIGENCE. 

Based on what we learned above about the brain being both an antenna and a librarian, the key to maximizing these capabilities is to increase your brain’s energy and ability to reach different frequencies across the entire spectrum so that you can access different levels of information and intelligence at those levels. Basically, we want to move from cable television to satellite, where we can pick up all the channels across the world.

While these insights may seem a little abstract, all you need to know and all you need to do is increase your Energy. With increased energy comes the ability to shift across the frequency spectrum to different levels and states of energy to acquire the information that resonates at those levels.

Basically for you to tap into the information and energies of the universe, you simply just need to raise your brain’s energy so that your brain is the quietest, clearest, most efficient antenna, which can accurately pick up the frequencies and energies of the universe so that you can tune into all the information on that channel. Second, you need to increase your ability to transform and transmit energy, to have the flexibility to shift to different levels of energy and information.
